Share the post "I am guarding the words of God that are in my heart and letting them flow from my life."
Today’s Scripture: Proverbs 4:23, NIV- “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
God has His ways of getting our attention. The Spirit of God moves in us and brings things to our minds and spirits directly from our hearts.
Since we are at the beginning of a new month, I was reminded that I should get back into the practice of reading the Proverb for each day. There are thirty-one proverbs for a reason, one for each day.
After catching up on the first two days of the month, I turned to the Week 2 Day 2 groundwork lesson for re:generation. I chuckled as I saw that the key scripture for today is Proverbs 4:23 “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” (ESV)
In the verses just prior to this verse we are instructed in Proverbs 4:20-23 to “pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.” (NIV)
Solomon wrote the Proverbs for us because of the wisdom God gave to him. In 1 Kings 3:9 Solomon asked God to “give to Your servant an understanding heart.” (NKJV) In 1 Kings 3:12 God said to Solomon “I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart.” (NKJV)
The wonderful news is that you and I can also ask God to give us understanding hearts. God has given us access to the Proverbs of Solomon to fill our hearts with wisdom every day.
In the 2 Chronicles 1:10 version of this same story Solomon asked God “Give me now wisdom and knowledge.” (KJV) In 2 Chronicles 1:12 God said to Solomon “wisdom and knowledge are granted to you.” (NKJV) I am thankful that we too can also ask God to give us wisdom and knowledge.
In Proverbs 4:1 Solomon is instructing us to “Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, And give attention to know understanding.” (NKJV) The bottom line given to us in Proverbs 4:4 is “Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live.” (NIV)
Proverbs 4:7 helps us set our priorities and our requests of God. “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” (KJV) Every day we can request of God for His wisdom and understanding. What He gives to us we need to store and guard in our hearts. As Proverbs 4:13 instructs us “Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go; Keep her, for she is your life.” (NKJV)
The instructions that God gives to us do give us life and give us our next steps in the right direction. As Proverbs 4:27 warns us “Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil.” (NKJV)
When we ask God for direction and know in our heart where we should step, we must be sure to walk in the path He is giving us. Will you ask God to give you an understanding heart filled with His wisdom and knowledge today?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, please give Your servant an understanding heart. Give me now Your wisdom and knowledge. Fill and guard my heart LORD so that I stay on Your path and live a life of what You have hidden within my heart. I am praying that You and Your wisdom flow from me. Amen.
