Today’s Scripture: Matthew 19:26, NKJV- “But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.””
God is not a slogan. Believers and non-believers alike call on Jesus’ promise that with God all things are possible in Matthew 19:26. We seem to forget that in the same verse it states, “with men this is impossible.”
We get up every day and live as though all things depend on us. What is it about “impossible” that we do not understand? We fret and look at life through the power of our flesh while forgetting the power of God.
Instead of taking control and listing the things we must do to increase production we should heed to the words of God Himself in Matthew 17:5 “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” (NIV) Can we take a moment to listen to Jesus today?
The disciples in Matthew 17:6, were terrified when they heard God and we live this life as if we are terrified, we will not hear Him. When we fall on our faces as they did, we can trust Matthew 17:7 “But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” (NIV) Instead of living in fear we can look to Jesus.
We can look to Jesus for Him to create our to-do lists. in Him we find answers and healing. Why do we think our “success” is up to us? Is it because we do not believe Jesus has a plan? Matthew 17:20 tells us, “So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”
We need to move our faith from our mouths to the depths of our hearts. Somewhere in those 12-18 inches between our brains and hearts we get lost. God created us to take dominion over our environments but not by leaving Him out of it.
Prayer and fasting as Jesus mentioned in Matthew 17:21 is still required to be in alignment with God. Instead of piling on more activities we must dig deeper. Deep within our hearts is where we find freedom. We can trust that God still provides our daily bread. Beyond our efforts and understanding Jesus still provides a way just as He did in Matthew 17:27. It sounds like a crazy story, but Jesus can still tell us where to throw out our line to catch the fish with what we need in its mouth.
Will we ask and trust Jesus with a childlike faith as He told His disciples in Matthew 18:3-4? When we welcome Jesus into every part of our day, we find the kingdom of God and we do not need to stumble or cause others to stumble.
As Matthew 18:20 promises “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (NIV) In a world of KPIs, CRMs, and PIPs, we often forget GOD. More prayer is needed than heartless busy work. When the Big Boss asks you to report on your activity the first question may be “did you pray first?”
The good news is the same Jesus who was sharing how the rich young man could be saved is still available to us today. Will you live today trusting that God makes all things possible? Let us pause now and ask Jesus to teach us the way.
Today’s Prayer: Almighty God, You alone are good and perfect. Thank You for granting Your power and perfection to us through Jesus Christ. Our weaknesses serve as proof that You alone make it possible for us to live with You forever. Reveal Your power to us LORD. Help us to trust and live for You. We need Your goodness and power in us today. Please grant us Your perfect love today so we may share You with others. In the name of Jesus Christ, we do pray. Amen.
