Today’s Scripture: 2 John 1:13, NIV- “The children of your sister, who is chosen by God, send their greetings.”
At 63 years old I can fall into the trap of regretting that I have chosen the wrong path. However, I am learning that God has chosen us to live in His truth. My wrong choices have served to bring me to God’s truths.
I have had to get out of my comfort zone to find what God has chosen for me. This is where I have found complete joy. 2 John 1:12 promises us complete joy when we meet face to face with our brothers and sisters. As 2 John 1:10 warns us, we must be careful who we let into our lives and homes. Sometimes the enemy is our own thoughts and fears. “If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them.” (NIV)
Let us not get ahead of God’s chosen path either. 2 John 1:9 states, “Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.”
What is the teaching of Christ we are to continue? In Matthew 22:34–40; Mark 12:28–34; and Luke 10:25–28. We know “Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”” (NKJV)
2 John 1:8 warns us and promises us to “Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully.” (NIV) We find the full rewards of God and what has been chosen for us by following the teaching and commands of the LORD and Jesus Christ.
John warns us in 2 John 1:7 that there are many deceivers in this world. Our protection against all deception both from our own minds and from outside influences is found in 2 John 1:6, “And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.” (NIV)
John reminds us in 2 John 1:5, “I am writing to remind you, dear friends, that we should love one another. This is not a new commandment, but one we have had from the beginning.” (NLT) 2 John 1:4 promises that we find our greatest joy when we find our children are walking in truth.
As we live the life chosen for us our children also learn the truth of 2 John 1:3 that “Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son, will be with us in truth and love.” (NIV)
2 John 1:2, also promises us that “because the truth lives in us and will be with us forever.” (NLT) When God’s truth is alive in us, we come to know His complete joy and experience His full rewards. Let us not be distracted, discouraged, or misled today. Let us live the life God has chosen for us.
Today’s Prayer: Dear LORD, thank you for first loving us. I love You with all my heart, soul, and mind. Direct me now how I can show love to my neighbor. Help me to live in Your truth and love. Thank You LORD for choosing to love us and for providing our Helper, the Holy Spirit, to remind us of everything Jesus taught us. We are grateful that we are blessed with Your complete joy and full rewards. Today, Father God, help us to choose what You have chosen for us. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, we do pray. Amen.
