Today’s Scripture: Numbers 11:17, NKJV- “Then I will come down and talk with you there. I will take of the Spirit that is upon you and will put the same upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you may not bear it yourself alone.”
The Holy Spirit of the LORD changes everything. The same Spirit that was upon Moses and his people. The same Spirit upon Jesus and His disciples can come and rest upon us.
Moses cried out to the LORD that the burden of all these people was too much for Him. I am thankful that I too can speak with God and let Him know my burdens are too heavy for me too. I do not want to be a whiner like these people in the desert, so I do want to be very thankful for my burdens.
My burdens are what bring me closer to God. LORD, I need You and Your Spirit now as my burdens are just too heavy for me to bear. We should have no doubt in the power of our LORD and His Spirit. Just as he reminded Moses, His arms are fully capable of carrying our burdens.
Come Holy Spirit, please rest upon me and help me with these burdens. I am giving You my burdens now and asking for You and the LORD to help me.
Let us review these steps to receive the Spirit of the LORD in Numbers 11.
1. Prayer: In Numbers 11:1 God was angry because of all the complaining of the people and His anger even brought fire down on them. Moses prayed and the fire was quenched.
2. Be content and grateful: In Numbers 11:4 the people “yielded to their cravings”.Contentment in what the Lord is giving now feeds us. We must be cautious not to whine and compare.
3. Give Your burdens to the LORD and His Spirit. In Numbers 11:14 Moses admits his burden is too heavy for him. We too can admit our burdens are too heavy and ask the LORD and His Spirit to help us.
4. Do what God tells us to do. In Numbers 11:16-17, Moses was faithful to gather those around him that God required.
5. Trust God. In Numbers 11:23 God reminded Moses that the LORD’S arms are fully capable to carry our burdens even if we can’t see a way.
6. Welcome the Spirit of the LORD to rest upon you. Numbers 11:25 states that the Spirit of the LORD can rest upon us.
7. Be available. In Numbers 11:29 Moses wishes that all of God’s people would have the Spirit up them and be prophets. We can receive the LORD’S Spirit.
Today’s prayer: LORD, I am thankful for Your Spirit. I need You LORD; my burdens are too much for me to bear. I do believe that Your Spirit and Your arms can provide strength, provisions, and miracles to complete Your will. I thank You LORD for all the many blessings You are giving me. I do not want to be ungrateful. I do need You LORD to give me what I do not currently have to handle these heavy burdens. Thank You for hearing my prayers LORD and for giving me Your Spirit to rest upon me. Amen.
