Today’s Scripture: Hebrews 13:2, BSB- “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.”
We can be unaware of angels among us. Have you ever walked away from a stranger thinking you may have just met an angel? Have you ever been mistaken for an angel by someone? I recently had an occasion to cross paths with someone where I am still not sure.
Hebrews 13:3 states that we should remember and pray for those in prison as if we were there with them and for us to feel the pain of those being mistreated. Do we feel the pain of others? Do we remember them? Do they remember us?
It is often said the teacher learns more than the student. Hebrews 13:5 teaches us to keep our lives free from the love of money and covetousness and to be content with what we have. When we give to strangers, I am not sure who is giving more. As I write these thoughts this morning, I am thankful for an encounter with another human being yesterday.
I am thankful that I can still remember the scents of a drenching summer heat as I hugged this man. I am reminded this morning by Hebrews 13:2 that we can be blessed by the angels God brings into our lives. We can be walking by them, or we can be responding to their request for any spare change we may have. I regret that I failed to ask this gentleman his name. However, I am praying for him now and I am hopeful he is praying for me.
Thank You God for blessing us with encounters with others. Help us to be reminded that these may just be Your angels but to know for sure they are Your beloved creation. We can be reminded of Hebrews 13:6 that states “So we may boldly say: “The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” (NKJV). We are reminded of a great affirmation of God- The LORD is my helper.
Hebrews 13:8 promises that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” We can experience Jesus and angels today. We can share the love of Jesus today and at the end of it we may not be able to recognize who the angel is, but we can recognize Jesus. He came for each one of us and we can share that, can’t we?
As Hebrews 13:9 states it is a good thing for our hearts to be established by grace. As we live with the gratitude for the grace Jesus has given us, we can give this grace to others. In our giving we may just experience angels. Be on the lookout for angels among your strangers today.
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your earthly encounters. Thank You LORD for allowing us to entertain angels. Father God I am thankful for Your love, grace, and provision. I am thankful we can share with strangers. Thank You LORD for reminding me to pray for others who may be in prison or in pain. Help me to feel the pain of others with compassion and love. Use me to bless others as much as You bless me. Thank You LORD for loving me so abundantly. Help me to give out of my abundance. Amen.
