We are at war within ourselves, at times, aren’t we? Do some things keep you under the weight of guilt? The good news of Jesus Christ is that He came to set us free with Holy Spirit of God.
Romans 8:2, NKJV is the source of this affirmation- “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”
We are free to look to the Spirit. This Spirit of God does take the wheel of our lives. Like Paul, in Romans 7:18 we must come to grips and confess that “And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t.” (NLT)
Why is it that I feel so much relief that Paul, the man of God, who wrote almost 30 percent of our New Testament, flat out admits that although he wants to do good, he just can’t do it? We should be as honest. The great news is that the Holy Spirit sets us free. To find this freedom we must turn to the Spirit. This turn is a letting go and turning away from our sinful nature.
Romans 8:5, instructs us on how to turn. “Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.” (NIV) We must flip the switch of our minds and what we think about.
Moment to moment this is a physical, mental, and spiritual turn. Where do we set our sights? God is not shocked when we have turned our sights and desires to the flesh. We break His heart and others when we choose to turn the wrong way. LORD help us stay turned to You and Your Spirit more and more.
Even in my prayers, I return over and over, with great freedom, to Romans 8:26, NLT- “And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.” The Holy Spirit is beyond our words and understanding but available and waiting for us to turn.
In fact, the world is waiting for us too, to be who God wills us to be. Romans 8:19, NLT states: “For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are.” God knows who we really are and the world needs to know too. In fact, Romans 8:28 promises that “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (NKJV)
Let us be real and turn to the Spirit of God and be who the world needs.
Today’s Prayer: Thank You Father God for Your Son Jesus Christ and for Your Holy Spirit. Forgive me Father for my sins. Thank You for the freedom I find in You and Your Spirit. Help me Lord to stay turned to Your Spirit so I will be who You desire for me to be. Use all of me Father God to offer freedom to this world that only Your Spirit can provide. We need You LORD. May Your Spirit speak and live through us in ways we cannot understand nor utter. Amen.
