Today’s Scripture: 2 Peter 1:3, NLT- “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.”
Although God has given us everything we need to live a godly life, we do not always choose to live godly, do we? I do not, but I am thankful for the words of 2 Peter 1:1 which states “This letter is from Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to you who share the same precious faith we have. This faith was given to you because of the justice and fairness of Jesus Christ, our God and Savior.” (NLT)
I do believe we share in the precious faith the apostles found, and we do receive grace and peace in abundance. We can choose to be slaves and apostles of Jesus Christ. When we make this choice, we do find abundant and multiplied grace and peace as promised in 2 Peter 1:2.
God does allow us to participate in His divine nature as promised in 2 Peter 1:4 when we choose slavery to Him and not the evil lusts, desires, and profits of this world. As Simon Peter encourages us in 2 Peter 1:5-7 we should make every effort to add to our faith, goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. (NIV)
God is granting us His divine power so we can possess all of these qualities so we are more effective and productive with the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ as promised in 2 Peter 1:8. As we allow God’s love to work through our callings, we bring more people into the eternal kingdom as referred to in 2 Peter 1:11.
As we make every effort to stay in God’s Word, we become eyewitnesses of God’s majesty. We do experience and hear God’s voice from heaven. We do find the light shining in our dark places and the morning star rising in our hearts as promised in 2 Peter 1:19. Beginning our days with God’s promises allows us to experience God’s divine power by the Holy Spirit.
We must only make every effort to simply show up. When we choose to live our days as slaves to Jesus Christ, we bring hope and promise for every new day. We do experience in our lives what Simon Peter references in 2 Peter 2:19 that “people are slaves to whatever mastered them.” (NIV)
Let us choose today to be slaves to our Master, Jesus Christ. Let us turn our thoughts to the goodness and love of God. As we recall God’s commands for us, we learn to live holy and godly lives as Peter encourages us in 2 Peter 3:11. I am thankful that the LORD is patient with us and gives us everything we need to grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jeus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever! Amen as stated in 2 Peter 3:18. (NIV)
Will we seek the mastery of Jesus today knowing that God has already given us everything we need?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your divine power that gives us everything thing we need to live fully in the grace, knowledge, and love of Jesus Christ our Master. Draw us into Your Word daily so we are reminded of Your promises to fulfill Your calling on our lives to bring more people into the understanding and glory of being slaves to Your love and eternal kingdom. In the name of our Master Jesus Christ we do pray. Amen.
