Share the post "LORD, I am stretching out my hands to You and my soul is thirsting for You."
Today’s Scripture: Psalm 143:6, KJB- “I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah.”
I am thankful David reveals His heart and need for God in Psalm 143. I feel compelled and free to stretch out my hands to God and cry out with a deeper thirst. I also am reminded to Selah, to pause. My need for God often reveals my heart yet I also need to pause to receive Him.
Do I pray and list my demands more than I pause and listen for the Holy Spirit to guide me? Do I spend too much time describing the daily bread that I want instead of listening for the daily bread God is serving me? I am sensing the need to allow God to write upon the tablets of my heart. I shall not be too busy writing that I fail to be written upon.
I do have a tendency to stretch out my hands in the darkness as I invite God’s kingdom and will into my soul and into this world. My soul does thirst for God however I am aware there are times, as David was experiencing in Psalm 143 that feel like life and death. There is thirsting and then there is thirsting at the point of extinction in times of drought.
I need You LORD. Like David, I am fully aware that I am not worthy and that I know You alone are righteous. I know that our enemy is relentless and draws us into darkness. There are times, like David voiced his experience in Psalm 143:4, where our spirits feel overwhelmed and our hearts feel desolate.
However, when I meditate on who God is and think about all that He has done from the beginning of time, I then reach out as David did in Psalm 143:6 and thirst with all that is in me for what God has for me. Like David, I need You now LORD. My spirit needs Your Spirit to remind me of who You are.
I am thankful, LORD, for Your lovingkindness I find in each new morning as David references in Psalm 143:8. Thank You, LORD, for Your faithfulness. I find joy and relief each morning as I trust in You in the way I should walk. I am lifting my soul to You LORD. Help me to relax and listen as You fill my soul and grant me direction.
LORD, I am seeking Your protection from myself and others. I am running to You, LORD, for protection. Teach me to do Your will and lead me with Your Spirit. Please grant me the ears to hear and the resolve to go where You are sending me.
Do you take time to listen to God?
Today’s Prayer: Almighty Heavenly Father, I am lifting myself to You. I do thirst for You like a dry and thirsty land that needs Your rainfall. Fall on me LORD, fill me with Your Spirit. Show me the way I shall walk today. Remind me of who You are and protect me. Thank You, LORD, for meeting me in the morning to teach me Your ways. Help me to go with You today where You desire for me to go. Amen.
