Today’s Scripture: Luke 8:18, NLT- “So pay attention to how you hear. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand will be taken away from them.””
Luke 8:8, The Message, states: “Are you listening to this? Really listening?” I have been told that I do not listen. I have been told my actions do not match my words.
God has a way of getting our attention. As we patiently wait and persevere by going to His Word over and over, it sticks. Some of it even knocks us over the head. This morning was weird for me.
I was brought to Luke 8: 16-18 through the Celebrate Recovery Lesson 23 entitled Give. I was rolling through translations of these verses through verse 17 that most of us recall about putting your light on a lampstand so everyone who enters may see your light. I could “see” that.
Oddly, the next verse switched gears or senses on me. So, pay attention to how you hear. Huh? How do you hear light? My ears were oddly stopped up. Ok God, I am hearing You. LORD, help me to hear.
Are you listening?
Today’s Prayer: LORD, please grant me ears to hear. Help me listen alertly to Your teaching. Help me to hear the stories of the lights of Your faithful. LORD, please grant me patience, perseverance, and maturity in Your Word. Help me to hear all others. LORD, I need your teaching and Your Word every moment. I need Your understanding and not my own. Thank You LORD for giving me ears to hear You. Amen.
