Today’s Scripture: Nehemiah 1:5-6, Tyndale- “Then I said, “O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps his covenant of unfailing love with those who love him and obey his commands, listen to my prayer! Look down and see me praying night and day for your people Israel. I confess that we have sinned against you. Yes, even my own family and I have sinned!”
Do you want God to listen to you? After days of mourning and fasting, Nehemiah gives us a model for crying out to the God of heaven.
He first recognizes and praises who he is praying to. The LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God. He reminds God of His promises, so he knows God’s words. He confesses that it is God who rescues us with His great power and might.
When we delight in honoring God, Nehemiah shows that God will grant us success and put it into the hearts of others to help us. God will give us the wisdom and boldness to ask for those things that will help us complete our mission. He will give more than we can even think or ask.
Let’s ask now that the LORD, God of heaven, listen to our prayers. When He looks down on us day and night what will He see?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your gracious hand that is upon me. Forgive me for my sins. Your plans have been put on my heart. Listen to my prayer O LORD, You are the mighty and awesome God of heaven and I thank You for hearing me and looking towards me. I am asking now for help to gain what is necessary for me to complete the plans You have made for me and Your people. You are powerful and mighty, and I know You will help me succeed. Amen
