Today’s Scripture: Romans 10:9, NKJV- “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
People tend to lean in when someone first states that they have a confession to make. Interest is peaked and other noises of the moment are resisted.
We complicate this “God-thing.” For those who have already made this confession that Jesus is Lord and believed it in their heart, it is no longer a scary proposition. However, we need to be humbled to recall the challenges faced by that decision when we were living far from God. Those we confess to may currently be living in a vastly different spiritual universe.
I am sure God made this simple because he knows we are a simple people. We really do stand at this crossroads daily. Although once saved, always saved, is true we do still need to decide who we will follow daily. We can confess our love and gratitude for Jesus and His saving grace daily. We can share how we came to believe.
I pray we are humbled by our moments of truth and that we never lose sight of what God has saved us from. There is anxiety at the moment of truth where the flesh does not want to lose control. Will I have to change my friend groups and current life? Most times, yes. However, your friends now will get to experience your salvation.
It is simple really. Me must only confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe, the best we can, that God raised Jesus from the dead. As Romans 10:10 states it is with our heart we must believe. This is a heart decision that must overcome our current understanding. Although only a few inches apart, the heart can seem worlds apart from the brain when it comes to receiving salvation.
However, it is simple as God intended. We must only confess this with our mouth and apply our hearts to believing and understanding. We can speak of the riches we find in salvation. Our hearts are created to know the riches of God and we do find these riches that Paul refers to in Romans 10:10. It is a rich comfort to know that Romans 10:13 is true that “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”
Once saved, we are called to preach to others about this salvation. We continually hear God in His Word. We can easily share what we have heard. Have you experienced the riches of God? You can receive them by declaring that Jesus is Lord with your mouth and believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead. Will you?
Today’s Prayer: Father God, thank You for saving us. I am confessing that Jesus is Lord and You raised Him from the dead. Thank You for Your Word that reminds us of our responsibilities and riches. Thank You, LORD, for saving me. Help me to confess and profess Your saving grace. Grant us the heart to believe and care for all others. Amen.
