Today’s Scripture: James 5:15-16, KJB- “And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
The power and healing in prayer and confession can be experienced fully in our lifetimes. I know my heart, mind, and soul were opened as I learned to pray more and learned to be honest. Yes, I had to learn to be honest.
We can live lives of secrecy. We can create images that are acceptable. However deep in our souls we are afraid we will be revealed. God’s Word and promises can be experienced. We find God and forgiveness though prayer. We find power in praying and confessing with others.
One of my favorite parts of attending Celebrate Recovery groups is the experiential nature of healing. I have found a place, a group, where I can be transparent and honest for the first time in my life. Stripped down and broken we can be healed when we throw caution to the wind and confess to another human being the nature of our wrongs.
In our healing we learn to pray for and with others. Our focus turns back to God. In 1 John 1:9 we are told that if we confess our sins God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. God cleanses us and God uses other people to help us heal.
Returning to James 5:11 where it references how we can read how God ended up showing compassion and mercy to Job at the end of his story and life. It is exciting to live in expectation as to see how God is working out our stories as well. Through prayer and confession, we will live out God’s plan.
- Do you have a friend you can be 100% honest with?
- Do you confess and pray to God?
- Can you believe God is working out His plan for you with forgiveness and healing?
Today’s Prayer: Almighty God, thank You for receiving my prayers and confessions. I confess that I am a sinner and I confess that I believe You have forgiven me and You are cleansing and purifying me. Thank You LORD, for people You have brought into my life where I can confess to them all my faults so I can find healing. Use me LORD to pray for and help others heal. Amen.
