Today’s Scripture: Joshua 1:9, NIV- “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
The LORD came to Joshua, after Moses’ death, and told him to get the people ready to cross the Jordan into their promised land. Do we ever feel ready? God knew that Joshua’s instincts were to be overwhelmed with the thoughts of leading a couple of million people into their promised land.
In Joshua 1:5, the LORD assured Joshua that no one could stand against him and that God Himself would never leave him. Four times in this first chapter of Joshua, God encourages Joshua and His people to be strong and courageous.
It takes God and His strength and courageousness in us for us to complete the mission He has given us. In Joshua 1:8 we are instructed “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
We find strength and courage in God’s Word. When we meditate on His promises and do all that is written in it, we find prosperity and success. Sometimes, what we are doing doesn’t make sense in this world. However, if we are doing as God is instructing us and it is in line with His Word, we will find prosperity and success in our missions.
God and His Word are the sources of our strength and courage. Knowing God is with us strengthens us to act on our calling. When we read and remember what God has promised us, we find confidence to keep moving forward. We find the commitment of those people in Joshua 1:16 who said they would do whatever God has commanded them and they would go wherever He was sending them.
The Word of the LORD prepares us to go. It also assures us that God will always be with us. Are you ready?
Today’s Prayer: Almighty God, LORD of heaven, thank You for Your strength and courage that You grant to us. Thank You for Your Book of the Law that reminds us of Your promises. May Your Word prepare us in the way we are to go. I will keep speaking of Your laws and meditating on Your promise’s day and night. Prepare me LORD to do whatever You command and to go wherever You are sending me. Amen.
