Today’s Scripture: Romans 7:6, NKJV- “But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.”
The Holy Spirit lives in us and we live in the Spirit. Being fully alive in the Spirit of God is experiential. The Holy Spirit takes our prayers to new dimensions and our lives to new people, places, and things. Just moments ago, I experienced once again how I must let go in my prayers and trust the Holy Spirit to communicate with God on my behalf.
My prayers suddenly go to new places that I do not even know but I can trust God is at work. Change me LORD, make me new. Shape me and form me from the inside out. Commune and communicate with me the new direction You desire. Lead me to new people, places, and things to serve You LORD in the newness of the Spirit.
As Paul warned in 2 Timothy 3, the last days will be terrible. People will only live for themselves and for doing wrong. People will become lovers of pleasure instead of lovers of God. I do not know if these are the last days but in reading 2 Timothy 3 one could believe so. Paul advised Timothy to avoid such people. Like Paul, the Lord rescues us.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 reminds us that all Scriptures are inspired by God and useful in equipping us for our good works. God’s Word teaches us and speaks to us through His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit takes these old words and makes them relevant in newness. In real-time the Holy Spirit is real and makes us become alive.
Romans 7:14 reminds us that the law is spiritual. In the next verse Paul is so relatable to us as he says he does not understand why although he wants to do what is right, he does not do it. He continues to do things he hates. Like Paul, we need the law and the Holy Spirit. In Romans 7:18 Paul reminds us that when we are living in our sinful nature, we cannot carry out goodness. In 7:21 Paul states that there is a law at work where even though we want to do good, evil is here.
However, in the next verse Romans 7:22 we are told that we can delight in the law with our inner beings. Thanks be to God; we are delivered through Jesus Christ our Lord! We learn through Christ that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. As Romans 8:2 promises, through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives us life has set us free from the law of sin and death.
Jesus came to teach us how to live according to the Spirit as told to us in Romans 8:4. Romans 8:5 promises that we can set our minds and lives on the things of the Spirit. Romans 8:6 promises that we can be spiritually minded and find life and peace. As we welcome the Spirit of Christ inside of us, we can trust to be led by this Spirit. In the Spirit of God and our Lord Jesus Christ we do find the newness of life that is full of life and peace.
Will you ask for the Spirit of Christ to live in a new way in You now?
Today’s Prayer: Our Father in Heaven, thank You for Your Son Jesus Christ and Your Holy Spirit. I am thankful for Jesus coming to earth to give us Your Spirit. I am welcoming Your Holy Spirit now LORD into my innermost being. I am thankful for the Prayers of the Holy Spirit which I do not have to understand. I am thankful for the guidance of the Holy Spirit who blesses us with the right people, places, and things. Fill us LORD with the newness of life and peace that You desire in Your Holy Spirit. Amen.
