Today’s Scripture: James 2:5, NIV- “Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?”
I am not sure which is more elusive, having a lot of money or having a lot of faith. We witness this in others and in ourselves. James seems to be saying that we get rich from what we love and act on.
God’s law of loving our neighbor as ourselves brings on a richness in which no other currency can compare. James referenced this as the law of liberty or law of freedom. When we love God first and foremost and then love our neighbors, we are truly rich and free.
James 2:14-17 is clear that we must act on our love. What we do with our faith and money proves our wealth. James asks, “what good is it?” if we do not put either into action. Faith or money by itself are dead without actions of love.
How will you share your riches today?Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, I love You. In You LORD I find freedom and great riches. LORD help me put my riches into action. May my neighbors know my love for them by what I give from Your abundance of love LORD. Help me to be generous whether I have plenty or be in lack. Help me to love You LORD above all others and then love my neighbor. In You LORD I am rich. Amen
