Today’s Scripture: Colossians 3:15, NKJV- “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.”
Do we “let” the peace of God rule in our hearts? Dictionary.com says “let” is to allow or permit. So today we have a choice. Do we allow the peace of God to rule in our hearts or do we block it with our old ways or the ways of this world?
In Colossians 3:1, we are told that after our old self died and we were raised with Christ we should seek His things. Colossian 3:2 instructs us to “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” (NKJV). Now that we have been raised in Him let us keep our minds on His things and not ours or the things of this earth. Dictionary.com says to “set” is to put or place in a proper position.
Colossian 3:4 gives us the secret to peace. When we make Jesus our life, we have the peace of joining Him in glory. The New living Translation puts it this way in Colossians 3:5- “So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you.” We all have things lurking around, don’t we?
Colossians 3:8 instructs us to get rid of all such things. What do you choose today? Will you let the peace of Christ rule in your heart, or will you hold onto your old self, your old ways, that you have allowed to rule your heart. Will you set your mind on His things or your things? Will you put to death those things that tend to hold you captive?
Colossians 3:10 says we can put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of our Creator, our God. We have a choice as to who we serve today. We have a choice as to where we put our minds and hearts today. May we seek His things and may we allow His peace to rule our hearts.
Most importantly as we are told in Colossians 3:14, NIV- “And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” Let us put on our love today and seek God’s way because it is there, we find the peace of God.
Will you let God’s peace rule in you today?
Today’s Prayer: Thank You Heavenly Father for offering us Your ways. Attract us to Your life and peace. Help and teach us to turn away from our old ways so we may know Your ways and Your peace. We are choosing to serve You today. Help us to work with all our hearts, as if working for You LORD and not for human masters. Help us to serve others with sincerity and reverence in glory to You. Teach us Lord to live Your life and peace. Amen.
