Today’s Scripture: Job 23:11, NKJV- “My foot has held fast to His steps; I have kept His way and not turned aside.”
When I was first advised to start writing a blog, I was told it was like writing a book one day at a time. For the first time in over twelve years of writing blogs, I am now going back to see what kind of book God has written through this process.
For the past few years in recovery, I have often said, just trust the process. Do not get too caught up in the short-term happenings and feelings. Just trust the process. Here in Job 23, Job was teaching us the same thing.
Sometimes things do not make sense to us. Even when I captured this affirmation in April of 2010, I wrote “As the Holy Spirit led me to choose this affirmation today, I reread the verse in which I derived this affirmation from Job 23:11(NKJV). Thinking oops, I must have written this down wrong as that is not what this verse says. Do you ever FEEL things just are not right? Can you always trust your feelings?”
I have come to recognize the difference between an “emotional feeling” and a “spiritual feeling.” As I reread the preceding verses in Job wondering how I ever came to this conclusion the day I harvested the affirmation it began to take shape.
Job was bitter in Job 23: 2. In verse three he admits he did not know where to find God. In Job 23:8, Job looked forward and backwards and could not see God; and in verse nine when God is working on his left and right Job just could not see him.
He ain’t feeling it folks. By the time he gets to verse eleven I am thinking this is astounding that he boldly says, “my foot has held fast to His steps: I have kept His way and not turned aside.” About this time, I am thinking this is a trait God would want us to claim, to affirm to live this way. Amazingly going to verse twelve Job even says he still treasures the words of God’s mouth more than his necessary food. Wow deeper and more real “feeling” than hunger. Think about that for a second. Can you sit still and tell a difference right now between an emotional feeling like happiness or sadness, or a physical feeling like hunger or thirst, and how about that deep searching spiritual feeling?
Not feeling it? Some yes, some no, as we all are at various places at different seasons of our lives. However, as Job shows us the way, hold fast my friend. Treasure God, seek Him and rest in the power of Him and His way. When we are in the zone, He feels all too real. But when we are not, like Job, we look forward and backward, left, and right and nothing, nada, no thing.
Hold fast, just kneel and focus on praising God and forget your feelings and amazing things happen. You begin to recognize that God feeling, deep inside of you, that will guide you and hold you in times when your fleshly feelings abandon you.
1. Are you feeling God today?
2. Can you even remember a time when you did?
3. Can you kneel today and praise God for who He is?
4. Are you seeking God and treasuring Him today?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, I am praising You and thanking You for who You are. Thank You creating us and all things. Thank You for loving, teaching, and guiding us. Thank You for Your Holy Word and Your Holy Spirit who instruct, correct, and fill us. Fill us with You LORD so we feel less of us. In the Holy name of Jesus Christ, I do pray. Amen.
