Today’s Scripture: Luke 12:33, NIV- “Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.”
Luke 12 always reminds me of the riches of God. God’s wealth and His treasures are forever while the riches of humankind are elusive and fleeting. I am choosing right now, this moment, to seek after the riches of God’s treasures in heaven.
Chasing after the treasures of this world can lead to worry, fear, and waste. Giving our worries, fears, and resources to God fills this earth and heaven with treasures. As we give away what God entrusts to us the world and heaven are richer places. We can give away what we have because we are assured that God always remembers us and always gives us our value.
Luke 12:34 is the famous verse that still rings true, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Where is your heart right now? Is it with our Father in heaven who provides all that we need? Luke 12 is where we are reminded of how God remembers the sparrows and provides the beauty of the lilies of the field that are more beautiful than what humans can build or provide.
Our treasures and our faith should be toward heaven. Our God has and always will provide. Luke 12 reminds us not to worry because our Father knows what we need. Luke 12:32 states “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”
We have been given the kingdom of God. Let that sink in. God remembers us, knows what we need, and finds pleasure in giving us His kingdom. Yet, many times He only sees our backs as we have turned to chase after and worry over things, He is standing with open hands to give to us. Can we just stop and turn to our Father in Heaven and take what He gives us with open eyes, hearts, and hands willing to share His glory?
Luke 12:35 shares a great perspective that we should always be “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning.” (NIV). Are we dressed and ready today to serve and give away the treasures of heaven? We can be rich toward God as directed in Luke 12:21 and experience the promise of Luke 12:23 that life is more with God. So much more than our worries will ever provide.
Luke 12:37 reminds us that we cannot out serve God. As we are dressed and ready to serve Him, He comes and serves us. Let us stay ready and keep giving what we have because as 12:40 teaches us we do not know the hour the Son of Man will return but I am praying He finds us dressed, ready, and serving with what He has blessed us with. Are you dressed and ready?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your riches. As Your sun rises and brings promises and riches of a new day, I am praying to give away the treasures You have given me. Thank You LORD for your provision of our daily bread. Thank You for adorning us as You do your lilies of the field. Thank You for providing for our needs as You do the sparrows. Thank You for remembering us, LORD. I am dressed in Your glory and prepared to serve You today. LORD, my heart and my treasures are with You. Amen.
