Today’s Scripture: James 1:5, NIV- “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
I started this morning at James 1:22 which states that we should be doers of the word and not just hearers so that we do not deceive or delude ourselves. I have wondered, out loud, in recovery meetings if I am delusional because I have “sins” in my life I do not even struggle with. Hoping to learn how to be a doer, I went back to James 1:1 start over and see if James would tell me how to be a doer and not just a hearer.
Firstly, James defined himself as a servant of God and the Lord Jesus Christ. If I lived life from that perspective, I would do more. In verse two James tells us we should consider it pure joy when we face trials. We should be thankful, joyful even, in our trials and struggles.
James 1:3 says our trials produce perseverance. Our trials only serve to help us mature and be complete in our service to God and our Lord Jesus Christ. We will do more in our lives, in the long run, because of our trials. Verse five seriously made me laugh out loud. Can we it really be that simple God? All I have do is ask?
Will you ask God to give you what You lack to be a doer of His word?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, I am asking You now to give me what I lack to be a doer of Your Word. Give me what I lack LORD to serve You and live as You want me to live. I have proven LORD that I do not have it in myself to love as You called me to love. Please give me what I lack to love You with all my heart, mind, and soul and to love and serve my neighbor. Amen.
