Today’s Scripture: Romans 11:36, BSB- “For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen.”
My first affirmation from Romans 11:36 was “I only need God.” Like most statements there is some truth and some not-so-truths. God did not create a universe of only one. God, in His nature is three.
Genesis 1:26 tells us “Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
We have been an “our” since the very beginning. When Jesus taught us to pray in Matthew 6:9 He had all words available to Him. He chose, “In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.” (NKJV)
Ok God, I get it. Although my introverted self urges me to go off the grid and live alone in the middle of the woods, You did not create me for this. I am not one. We were created in God’s image and likeness. We have God, flesh, and Spirit in us.
It is always humbling when scatter-brained prayers can bring us to God’s point. As my fleshly brain was scrambling for the “right” prayer this morning, the God in me reminded my spirit to seek to pray as Jesus prayed. Just silence your words Tom and allow the same Spirit that prayed with Jesus to pray for you.
It sounds so simple, yet day after day we complicate life with our emotions, fears, and understandings. When we stop and remove our flesh, we experience God and His Spirit. I have become convinced that it does not matter where we open our Bibles, but this morning God had me at Romans 12:1-2. “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (NIV)
It know it sounds corny to say “therefore” reminds me to read the previous verses to see what it was “there for” but it is amazing how often that this is where I find what God was sending my rambling mind to in prayer. Romans 11:36 screamed at me “For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen.” (NKJV)
LORD, I hear You. I only need You. As soon as I captured this affirmation it felt as if I was slighting those I love and those I do not even know yet. I always pray in Jesus’ prayer that He give me the daily bread not only for me but for the people He intends for me to feed.
Well, here I am providing you with the daily bread God shared with me. If it were not for you, why would I write? If it were not for God and His Word, what would I feast upon today?
I am thankful for your presence in my life. I have no doubt that God directs our steps and orders our thoughts for this very moment. We are in this life together. The Spirit reminds me of Hebrews 10:23-24, “Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.” (NLT)
We need God in all things, and we need all of us in our God.
Today’s Prayer: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
