Today’s Scripture: 2 Corinthians 8:5, NLT- “They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do.”
The people of the churches in Macedonia referenced in 2 Corinthians 8 teach us how to give. They gave even more than their ability to give. They pleaded to serve the Lord’s people. There were able to do all of this because they first gave themselves to the Lord.
When we first give ourselves to the Lord we are then able to give so much more. We can excel in everything if we give ourselves to Jesus first. We are simply better at life when we put our life in Jesus first and foremost.
If we empty ourselves for Jesus we find His riches. In fact 2 Corinthians 8:9 reminds us that although Jesus is God, He made Himself poor like man, so we could receive the full riches of God. In God we are rich but first we must be poor and needy for Him.
Do you have the desire to put Jesus first in your life?
Today’s Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for becoming poor so I could become rich. Help me Lord Jesus to always put You first. Help me to give myself to you first of all. In You Jesus I am rich. Rich in mercy, grace, and love. When I give all that I am able and then even more than my ability to give then there I learn to live in faith; faith in You Jesus for all of my needs. When I am poor in spirit I am rich in You. Thank You Jesus for becoming poor for me so I would know the riches of heaven. Amen
