Today’s Scripture: Psalm 119:12, NKJV- “Blessed are You, O LORD! Teach me Your statutes.”
We can ask the LORD to teach us. I am thankful for His commands that keep us secure, joyful, and equipped.
Psalm 119:10, states “With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!” I find myself asking the LORD to teach me how to seek Him with my whole heart and to teach me how to keep from wandering from His commands.
Psalm 119:11 instructs us to hide His Word in our hearts so we might not sin against Him. Psalm 119:12 gives us the first step to learn from God. This is to praise and bless our LORD. When God is first in our hearts His Spirit does teach us and fill us. The next step of instruction in Psalm 119:13 reminds us to keep His laws on our lips. As we remember His words in our minds and speak them with our lips, they implant themselves into our heart.
When we meditate and contemplate God’s precepts and ways as we are taught in Psalm 119:15, we learn to rejoice and experience the promise of His riches. We also learn to delight ourselves in God’s statutes and remember them as the writer of Psalms 119:16 proclaimed.
We can ask, right now, as the Psalmist did in Psalm 119:18 that the LORD opens our eyes so that we may see the wonderful things in His Law. The more we return to the Word with open eyes and open hearts, the more God fills our hearts with wonderful things and teaches us obedience.
As Psalm 119:20 promises, our souls break wide open with a longing for God’s judgments at all times. Regardless of what is going on around us we do find when we turn to God’s Word, we find the delight and counsel promised in Psalm 119:24.
God’s word does revive us. We find God’s answers and teachings in His statutes. It is God who grants us understanding as we talk about His works. God also strengthens us according to His Word when we ask as the Psalmist did in Psalm 119:28.
When we choose the way of truth, we do find the judgments of our LORD laid out for us as promised in Psalm 119:30. When we cling to the testimonies of God we find security. When we run the way of God’s commands He enlarges our hearts.
God does teach us His ways so that we can follow them. We must simply ask as Psalm 119:41, “Let Your mercies come also to me, O LORD— Your salvation according to Your word.” (NKJV)
Today’s Prayer: Father God blessed are You. Please teach us Your statutes. LORD, I am trusting in Your Word. Please keep Your words of truth on our lips as we put our hope in You. Help us to obey Your laws. Thank You for the freedom and joy we find in You and Your precepts. Thank You for the delight we find in Your commands when we love them. We love You LORD and are asking now that You teach us to meditate on Your commands day and night. In Your mighty and holy name we do pray. Amen.
