Today’s Scripture: Matthew 22:37 ESV: And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
Our greatest commandment, our greatest calling spoken to us by Jesus Himself is to love the Lord our God with all of our heart, all of our soul and all of our mind. This is who we are called to be; what we are called to be about. This love of the Lord prepares us for this life and His kingdom.
Earlier in Matthew 22:12 as Jesus spoke a parable to show us what the kingdom of God is like I recall the shock and amazement I once felt that the King would reject someone from the invitation only because they were not wearing wedding garments. Wait Lord, you invited everyone to the feast, why is this person being rejected for not wearing the appropriate clothing? This seemed out of character. Of course, Jesus in His perfect nature does nothing out of character so I must seek the meaning of this parable.
In this meaning do we find an explanation to Matthew 22:14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”? Was the person rejected from the calling not clothed in the love we are called to have? Was he clothed in things other than this love? What do we clothe ourselves in? When we show up for God’s feast will we be clothed in this love for him in our heart, soul and mind? I can affirm this commandment all day long but more importantly I must love the Lord my God above all else. What are your thoughts on these verses?
Today’s Prayer: Lord, I do confess my love for You in my heart, my soul and my mind. Please continue to clothe me in Your love. Make me keenly aware O Lord of the other garments in which I clothe myself. Lord I want to rid myself of all false garments that may prevent You from choosing me. Help me to honor Your invitation and Your commandments. I love you with all that I have and ask You to help me live and show this love to my neighbor. Amen

How does one truly love the Lord our God with all we have and are?
Of all the “struggles” I have this side of Heaven, this one query always stumps me.
Thanks for the soul-food, Tom.
Thanks Donald, He made us so He probably knows our “all” better than us.
