Today’s Scripture: Luke 8:39 NIV: “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.
Have you ever felt like Legion? You had many demons that forced you into your own personal wilderness? Here in Luke 8 Jesus removed all of Legion’s demons and used him to spread the good news.
Legion experienced the power of Jesus and wanted to go with Him. However Jesus had other plans for him. He wanted Legion to return home and tell how much God had done for him. Those who knew him best could hear and see what Jesus had done.
We are like Legion. God has done so much for us. We are to go, tell and show how much God has done for us. Our lives, our experiences will tell of what Jesus has done. Others will come to believe and know Jesus because we tell them how much He has done for us.
Can you tell how much God has done for you?
Today’s Prayer: LORD God, thank You for doing so much for me. I will proclaim how much you have done. Use my experiences to show others Your Kingdom and Your power. Remove all of my demons LORD and send me to tell others of how much you have done. Amen

Affirmations of God

I absolutely LOVE getting your email devotions daily! 🙂
But, I had to tell you about a correction that may be needed in today’s reading. Please know, I’m not trying to be dogmatic in any way. But the way I read verse Luke 8:30… When Jesus asks “What is thy name?”… the response was “Legion” because many devils were entered into him. – This man isn’t named Legion… but the demonic spirit in him is named Legion. I took this verse as the demon replying to Jesus, not the man.
I realized I could have interpreted this verse wrong, so I went to the web and Wikipedia states the following: Legion (demons) “Legion” is a group of demons referred to in the New Testament, in an incident in which Jesus performs an exorcism.
In fact, check out the verse right after this:
Luke 8:30 – “What is your name?” Jesus asked. “Legion,” he answered, because many demons had gone into him.
Luke 8:31- And the demons kept begging Jesus not to order them to go into the abyss.…
The “demons kept begging”. This is confirmation of the demons speaking, instead of the man.
The other times Legion is mentioned in the Bible also confirms this meaning to me:
Mar 5:9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
Mar 5:15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
I hope this makes sense. And please let me know if you feel I am the one that is wrong. I am always open to correction. 🙂
And thank you so much for your daily’s. They are wonderful!!! 🙂
Angela, first of all, I sooooooo apologize for my lack of response. I had not realized that I was not receiving these responses. I have been a season of change with a new vocation and I lost contact with my email system and was not aware. Secondly, I am soooooo very thankful for your kind words of encouragement and I am blessed by your continued presence and support of Affirmations of God.
I always want to be true to God’s Word and realize that all of my affirmations have been written in “real time” after prayer and Scripture reading. My take may be off slightly but true at the moment I am in. I most certainly do NOT want to add to God’s Word or use it inappropriately. I am not a biblical scholar by any stretch and hope to allow the Spirit of God to speak and flow.
Having said all of that, lol, since this is sooooo late of a response I will review that writing again and will hopefully respond again to your input but your references certainly make sense. I will try to look back and review what I said in relation to the scriptures. I know when asked he said his name was Legion and yes it was because of the many demons, yet I am not aware of any other name for this person. Either way, the Spirit of the message is pure I do believe. Please keep following and please do NOT hesitate to ever provide insight, especially when your spirit gives you a prompting to share with me a point to be corrected. I am very thankful and receptive to the Spirit’s use of all of us to spur each other on and provide both encouragement and correction.
Many blessings and I hope to hear back from you often! In Him we serve and live together in unison!
