Today’s Scripture: 1 Corinthians 8:3, NIV- “ But whoever loves God is known by God.”
Do you want to be known by God? 1 Corinthians 8:3 states that whoever loves God will be known by Him. Can You confess your love to God now?
This sounds so simple yet there are many people all over the world that do not believe there is a God, much less love Him. Just because they cannot understand God it is simpler for them to shut down any thoughts that entertain His existence. Little do they realize now, but God knows us all, whether we believe or not.
For those of us who have come to know God we now know a love beyond our understanding and feelings. One thing that I do know for sure is that the more I have come to know God the more I have come to love Him.
Since 1 Corinthians 8:3 begins with the word “but” we must read the prior verse to see what brings us to the love of God. 1 Corinthians 8:2 puts it this way, “Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn’t really know very much.“ (NLT) Ouch, we humans do tend to think we have all the answers, don’t we?
Many of us “lost” our faith in God in college where we attended to increase our knowledge. For many years, my mother stated that she sent an angel off to the University of Georgia only to get the devil back. I fought many of those demons for decades. Still today, the campuses of secondary education are breeding grounds for seeking knowledge over God.
The most “educated” in our society are the ones who cannot accept God. 1 Corinthians 8:1 gives us some insight into this. “Now concerning the things sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.” (BLB) Maybe it is the age bracket, college or not, where we become our own idols. We become puffed up in our knowledge.
But, as life has a way of doing, we can be taken down a notch or two when we are faced with our own failures, illnesses, addictions, etc. It is at this point in our lives when we seek an understanding beyond ourselves and most times what we find is the love of God. When we strip away our egos and understanding we can simply love. Loving God does build us up.
God, I am thankful for You and Your love. God, I love you.
Are you in love with God?
Today’s Prayer: Dear God, I love you. Thank you for stripping away all that I thought I knew and for taking away everything in which I had found security. You are all I have and all I can count on. Thank You for loving me and caring for me. Thank You for showing Yourself faithful over and over. I know very little, but I know You love me and I love You. Thank You for the comfort, the hope, and the passion in Your love. Amen
