Today’s Scripture: Luke 2:27, NIV- “Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required,”
The story of Simeon in Luke 2 reminds us of God’s timing and the power of His Spirit. When we commit ourselves to God and His plans, He is sure to move us to where we are supposed to me. We may become restless, surprised, or even disappointed by unexpected moves. However, if our hearts are committed to the work of God, our LORD will place us where He desires for us to be.
In Luke 2:25, we are told the Holy Spirit was upon Simeon. In Luke 2:26 we find that the Holy Spirit revealed to Simeon that he would not die until he had seen the LORD’s Christ, the promised Messiah. In Luke 2:27 we are told on the 40th day after Jesus’ birth, Mary and Joseph were bringing baby Jesus to the temple according to the laws of Moses.
The Spirit moved Simeon to be there at the exact day and time. This was a small window of time that Simeon could have missed if He had not listened to or been moved by the Spirit. The Holy Spirit still moves us today. As we seek to be who and where God wants us to be we can ask the Holy Spirit to move us.
I am thankful Simeon did not hit the snooze button or disregard the nudging of the Holy Spirit. I am thankful we can choose today to be just as confident and faithful in the movement of the Holy Spirit of God. Let us pray and listen to the Holy Spirit to move us.
Thousands of years after Simeon was moved by the Holy Spirit, we can still read about how he helped confirm that the baby Jesus was the promised Messiah for all of humankind. Let us look back over our lives and I am sure we can see moments where the Holy Spirit of God put us in just the right place at the right time as well.
Humans have looked towards hocus pocus or synchronicities that attempt to give the credit to being in the right place at the right time to being coincidences. Scientists and psychologists attempt to believe that human cognition can somehow be credited with such instances. I prefer to believe in a much higher power. The power of God in the form of the Holy Spirit who puts us exactly where we need to be when we need to be there and with whom He desires.
Let us praise and pray to God now that the Holy Spirit continues to move us to be where He wants us to be. Do we feel we are in the wrong place right now? Are we restless? We can trust and be grateful that the Holy Spirit is leading us and moving us. We can trust the Holy Spirit over our circumstances and fears.
Like Simeon in Luke 2:30, we can praise God for allowing us to experience His salvation. Holy Spirit please come upon us and move us to where You desire us to be today.
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Holy Spirit that is upon us. Holy Spirit please lead us and move us to where we best serve our LORD and His people. Please help us to discern Your Spirit over all other voices and feelings. We are praising You Father God for Your Spirit and praying to be faithful to Your moves. I trust You LORD and I am on high alert for Your Spirit. Thank You LORD for our salvation. Please lead us with Your Spirit today. Amen.
