Today’s Scripture: 2 Corinthians 4:6, NKJV- “For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” (Genesis 1:3, KJV), If you are like me, you probably heard about this as a young child. I am thankful for my parents who took Deuteronomy 6 to heart. They lived out Deuteronomy 6:7 “Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.” (NLT)
The instructions in Deuteronomy 6 were from Moses to the children of God as they were to enter their promised land. Every single one of us, and our children, have a land God is calling us into. We too must live upon the commands, decrees, and laws of the LORD our God.
Deuteronomy 6:2 is just as applicable to our lives today as they were in the days of Moses. “and you and your children and grandchildren must fear the LORD your God as long as you live. If you obey all his decrees and commands, you will enjoy a long life.” (NLT
I have lived most of my life picturing the sun in my mind’s eye when God said, “let there be light.” Recently, I heard the point that God said let there be light on the first day of creation, but the sun and moon were not placed into the sky until the fourth day.
What exactly is the light of God? It saddens my spirit when I see Google AI state that the “light of God” is a metaphor and theological concept found across many religions.” If you have experienced the light of God, you know for a fact that He is not a metaphor or concept. He is as real as the breath keeping you alive.
Gotquestions.org offers these truths under its question “What does it mean that God is light? “God is light, and so is His Son. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). To “walk” is to make progress. Therefore, we can infer from this verse that Christians are meant to grow in holiness and to mature in faith as they follow Jesus (see 2 Peter 3:18).
God is light, and it is His plan that believers shine forth His light, becoming more like Christ every day. “You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness” (1 Thessalonians 5:5). God is the Creator of physical light as well as the Giver of spiritual light by which we can see the truth. Light exposes that which is hidden in darkness; it shows things as they really are. To walk in the light means to know God, understand the truth, and live in righteousness.”
I am suggesting you re-read 2 Corinthians 3 and 4. I am finding that they reveal the true way to see God’s light. The Spirit of the living God is on our human hearts. Our lives are not metaphors or concepts. We are living breathing creatures that are given life by the Spirit of God.
We can see the truth of 2 Corinthians 4:4 every day. “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” (NIV)
2 Corinthians 4:18 reminds us to fix our eyes not on what is seen but what is unseen for what is unseen is eternal. The light of God is more known than seen yet the eyes of our heart can come to know His light.
Will you allow the Spirit to open the eyes of your heart to the light of our Lord today?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Holy Spirit that allows us to see and know You. Thank You for opening the eyes of our hearts to see Jesus. I trust You and know You are the source of light and all the power I need for the ministry You have given me. Thank You LORD for Your Spirit who helps us see the freedom of Jesus Christ. Amen.
