Today’s Scripture: Acts 22:14, NKJV- “Then he said, ‘The God of our fathers has chosen you that you should know His will, and see the Just One, and hear the voice of His mouth.”
Is it arrogant to believe, much less say, “God has chosen me”? Before you believe that you are not worthy, please consider this verse is part of Saul’s, explanation of how God’s great light from heaven shone on him on the road to Damascus even though he had been persecuting followers of the Way of Christ.
Our perspectives do change when the great light of God shines upon us. Personally, God’s Word and experiences continually shock me. I began writing this affirmation about God choosing us a couple of days ago. I had recorded the six separate places throughout the scriptures where I had captured the affirmation “God has chosen me.”
However, as I prayed this morning I could see and feel God’s great light upon my face as I looked towards Him with closed eyes. I thought for sure I was to write that God’s light is still shining on us today.
However, since I had already started with God has chosen me, I thought I would finish it and do a little more research on the light of God later. I was about to press send when I felt the need to re-read Acts 22. As I read Acts 22:6 leading up to today’s verse I was shocked to read “Now it happened, as I journeyed and came near Damascus at about noon, suddenly a great light from heaven shone around me.” (NKJV)
In Acts 22:7 Saul continues “And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?’ (NKJV) Saul responded in Acts 22:8, ’Who are you, Lord?’ I asked. “’I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting,’ he replied. (NIV)
Saul’s next question in Acts 22:10 should be our question every day. “What shall I do, Lord?” We may not be on the road to Damascus, but we do have the Bible that shares what we are to do. The Spirit of God makes the Word, and our days come alive with purpose.
In Acts 22:15, Ananias continued speaking to Saul and said, “For you will be a witness for Him to all people of what you have seen and heard.” (NASB) All of us have been chosen to be witnesses of what we have seen and heard in Jesus Christ. We can do that, right?
Acts 22:16 is a great question for us “What are you waiting for? Get up and be baptized. Have your sins washed away by calling on the name of the Lord.’ (NLT) Let us not wait another day because God and His Son Jesus Christ have chosen us.
What are you waiting for? What have you seen and heard?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us and choosing us to receive Jesus. Thank You for shining Your great light upon us. May Your Spirit help us to make disciples with what we have seen and heard in You. Thank You LORD for choosing us and for drawing us near to dwell with You. Fill us with Your goodness LORD so we complete Your will. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
