Today’s Scripture: Psalms 46:7, KJV- “The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.”
Sometimes we need to stop and reflect at the overwhelming vastness of our God. I do not believe the English language has a word that can describe God or even the scope of our blessings.
As far back as 2010 I had captured that “The Lord almighty is with me.” I had no idea then how thankful I could really be. Now, today in 2025 the King James Version of the Bible and a little study have reminded me of how grateful I am.
Firstly, the term LORD Almighty gives us a hint of God’s power while the title The LORD of hosts magnifies who our LORD is. Google AI puts it this way, “The term “Lord of Hosts” (or “Yahweh Sabaoth” in Hebrew) literally means “Lord of armies”. It depicts God as the supreme leader of all heavenly forces, including angels and celestial bodies.”
Although our LORD Almighty has all power to protect us, He also brings an army of angels with Him. Can you pause and get an image of that in your mind’s eye and heart. I picture huge, taller than the trees, powerful armored angels when I need protection. This is just me. Let me know what you see.
2 Kings 6:16 gives us a great example of our LORD of hosts. “Do not be afraid,” Elisha answered, “for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” (BSB) We get some bravery from that reminder, don’t we? Then in the next verse, 2 Kings 6:17 “Then Elisha prayed, “O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.” And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw that the hills were full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. (BSB)
Do you recall what happened next in 2 Kings 6:18? Elisha’s next prayer was NOT for God’s hosts of angels to kill all these people, he actual said “LORD, ““Strike this people, I pray, with blindness.” (NKJV)
Next Elisha spoke to the competing army and said in 2 Kings 6:19 “This is not the road and this is not the city. Follow me, and I will lead you to the man you are looking for.” (NIV) Then this army that was prepared to kill him moments earlier actually followed him blindly to Samaria which was the center of Israel’s kingdom.
Even more amazing, the king of Israel asked Elisha if he should kill all these warriors, Elisha said this in 2 Kings 6:22 “Do not kill them,” he answered. “Would you kill those you have captured with your own sword or bow? Set food and water before them so that they may eat and drink and then go back to their master.” (NIV) Instead of killing them they gave these warriors a feast!
We should still fight our battles like this today, shouldn’t we? We should stand up to all battles bravely knowing the LORD of hosts is with us. Then ask our LORD to open our eyes to recognize His power and ask Him to direct us with our enemies.
In the face of all our battles let us remember Psalm 46:10-11 “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.” (NKJV)
Do you ever pause to reflect on the powers of God and have faith that all of them are with you?
Today’s Prayer: LORD Almighty, LORD of hosts, thank You for being with us. You LORD are our refuge. I am trusting that Your mighty powers and angel armies protect me. Open our eyes LORD to see Your might. I am pausing now to praise You and know that You are my God. Amen.
