Today’s Scripture: Colossians 1:27, NKJV – “To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
At times God can seem a million miles away but then in an instant we can receive Him inside of us. Sometimes my prayers can begin as a rambling mess. My head can even be filled with ungodly thoughts.
Yet, looking to God mysteriously changes everything. My mind and spirit can be calmed and explode simultaneously. This is not a mystery I care to solve but one I only care to receive. I am thankful that God chose to make it possible for us to know the riches of His glory.
In 2006 there was a book entitled “The Secret” that was all the rage among the “self-help” community. According to Wikipedia regarding The Secret, “It is based on the belief of the pseudoscientific law of attraction, which claims that thought alone can influence objective circumstances within one’s life. The book alleges energy as assurance of its effectiveness.”
Way back in the early 1990’s I did experience the power of positive affirmation where my thoughts did create or at least influence my circumstances. Shocked and yet a little unsettled, I realized that what I really wanted to attract was to be who God wanted me to be. With Christ living in us we do not need the pseudoscientific limitations of the human brain and spirit, we simply need Him.
After reading the New Living Translation of Colossians 1:27 “And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.” I felt like I needed to author a book entitled “It is no Secret.”
Christ in us is where we find the hope of God and not the whims of our flesh. We can know what we want but it is so much more fulfilling to live what God wants for us. The birth of Affirmations of God came early in the morning on January 9th, 2008, when a voice spoke from inside of me “Tom, every affirmation you will ever need is found in My Word.”
Here on August 8th, 2025, I am not any closer to understanding God, but I am consumed, comforted, and convinced that Jesus does live in me. He does give me hope of God’s glory. Everyone loves a good mystery. Why not love to strive to solve what God has chosen for us.
Instead of proclaiming and attracting our selfish wants, Colossians 1:28 instructs us to proclaim Jesus. “We proclaim Him, admonishing every person and teaching every person with all wisdom, so that we may present every person complete in Christ.” (NASB) Instead of living a life of our understanding we attract all wisdom, and we are finally complete.
Why would we settle for the limited understanding and shallow desires of the flesh when we have been given the wisdom of the Creator of all things. Instead of attempting to create a new reality we can choose God’s will for us.
We can come to know what Paul concluded in Colossians 1:29 “To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.” (NIV) There is no need to attempt to create energies that attract what we think we want when we can live in all the energy Christ so powerfully works in us.
Will you allow the energy of Christ to work powerfully in you today?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for choosing us to be filled with Christ. Jesus, I am welcoming You to fill me and work Your power through me. All my hope is in You LORD that I will attract those things and people that will help me fulfill Your glory. You LORD are my hope and power, and I am praying to fulfill Your will in me. In the name of Jesus Christ who lives in me I am praying. Amen.
