Share the post "You, Lord Jesus, know the hearts of all, please show us what You have chosen for us to do."
Today’s Scripture: Acts 1:24, NKJV- “And they prayed and said, “You, O Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which of these two You have chosen”
After Judas Iscariot led the men to arrest Jesus, he went on to his dwelling place where no one else could live as the apostles said was spoken in the Psalms. I have often wondered if Judas was just being faithful to his calling as Jesus was sent to be our ultimate sacrifice. As Acts 1:17 stated “He was one of our number and shared in our ministry.” (NIV) Acts 1:2
We are one of this number too. We will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us; and we will be Jesus’ witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. The Holy Spirit gives us a voice so others will hear about Jesus. Our life experiences and testimonies of how the Holy Spirit came into our lives are our witness.
As the apostles prayed, it is interesting in which tense they prayed to Jesus, “show which of these two you have chosen.” They knew He had already chosen between Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias who they were nominating. We too can pray to Jesus for what He has already chosen for us.
You and I have a language that only certain others can understand. The apostles knew that someone needed to step up to take over for Judas as he went on to where he belonged. We too are called to be witnesses for Jesus Christ. As the Holy Spirit blows like a violent wind from heaven into our lives, we can speak with the tongues of fire that come and rest upon us as He did in Acts 2:2.
Filled with the Holy Spirit, we begin to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enables us. From Jerusalem to every nation under heaven as promised in Acts 2:5 you and I will speak what the Holy Spirit speaks through us. We will all be completely amazed at what God can do through us. How is it that God puts us in a place, so we speak the language of those He intends?
We may be bewildered but we can be confident in the faith and power of Jesus Christ and the Helper he has provided to us. As Acts 2:11 promises, we are declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues to the minds and souls of those who understand! Like those on the day of Pentecost, we will be amazed and perplexed at times. We may not understand but we can stand on the movement and words of the Holy Spirit.
We are God’s plan to show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth. The great and glorious day of our Lord’s return is coming and everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. We can share our stories of what we experienced when we called on the name of the Lord. We have a responsibility to share our stories and we can trust the Holy Spirit to speak in words others will understand.
As Acts 2:26 promises, when our hearts are filled with gladness and our tongues rejoice, our bodies will rest in hope. Will you share your gladness, joy, and hope with others?
Today’s Prayer: Thank You Father God for choosing me. Help me to serve as Jesus has chosen for me. Speak through me Holy Spirit so others will come to know Your calling so they may share the gladness, joy, and hope You have given to them. Holy Spirit I am trusting in Your great winds and words to share the saving grace of Jesus Christ so all others may be saved to the ends of the earth. Amen.
