Today’s Scripture: Romans 12:13, NIV- “Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”
We should always be prepared to share what we have with those in need. At every moment we can ask God and His Spirit to open our hearts, minds, souls, and eyes to someone who may need what we have.
Sometimes helping others is as simple as meeting them where they are. As Romans 12:15, NLT puts it, “Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep.” We do not need to have any words or be theologians. We simply need to be aware of those in need.
We can, moment to moment, ask God to reveal to us who we are to share with. As Romans 12:12 instructs us, we should remain joyful in our hopes, patient in our tribulations, and constantly in prayer. As we pray and stay on high alert, God has His ways of placing those who need what we have in our paths.
Romans 12:11 encourages us to be diligent in our works and fervent in spirit to serve the Lord. We can show love and honor to everyone we encounter today as we are instructed in Romans 12:10. As the previous verse Romans 12:9 instructs us, hold tightly to what is good. (NLT) Our Lord has given us what is good. As Romans 12:8, NLT puts it, “If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.”
We do not need to attempt to be someone else. God has gifted us and equipped us to share what we have with people in need. As Romans 12:6 guarantees, “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.” (NIV)
“So it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.” Romans 12:5 (NLT) Be your part in Christ. The body of Christ needs each one of us. As we look to Christ and seek His Spirit we serve as He intends.
As Romans 12:4 states, you and I do not have the same functions in the body of Christ. These are not our gifts but the gifts of our Lord in us. As Romans 12:3 warns, we should not think more highly of ourselves than we should, and we should also function with the amount of faith He has given each of us.
As we pray constantly and have faith in what the Holy Spirit speaks for us, we realize Romans 12:2 which puts it this way, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will.” (NIV)
As we offer our bodies as living sacrifices to God worried only about pleasing Him as Paul encourages us in Romans 12:1, “this is your true and proper worship.” Let us be true to God, not as individuals but as being the part of His body.
Are we asking, listening, and doing our part?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, we praise Your name. As we gather to seek Your face we come to know Your Spirit. Pray for us Holy Spirit as we offer our bodies as living sacrifices to be the part of Your body You intend. Grant us faith LORD and renew our minds Father God to help and serve Your people. In the name of Jesus Christ, we do pray. Amen.
