Today’s Scripture: Deuteronomy 8:3, NLT- “Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.”
The more we consume the words that come from the mouth of the LORD, the more we live. The words and powers of the LORD provide life and strength to us. Just as Moses reminded those people preparing to enter their promised land that their clothes never wore out over the forty years in the desert, the words and covenants of our LORD never wear out.
As it is recorded in Luke 4:2-4, the devil was tempting Jesus to turn a stone into bread since He had not eaten in forty days. Jesus fed God’s words back to the devil to overcome temptation. As I searched to find the words Jesus was referencing, I found words from God’s mouth through Moses that fed my soul. The words that Moses spoke to the people of God back in Deuteronomy 8:3 can come to our spirits, minds, and mouths as they did Jesus if we are careful to study them.
We will not always have time to access the internet to find what God has spoken to us. We must be reminded over and over by reading God’s Word over and over. Moses was reminding the people of God of what God had done for them over the forty years in the desert. They had to be reminded and they lived it.
How much more must we be reminded generations later? As Moses reminded the Israelites in Deuteronomy 7:9 we can be reminded that “Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.” (NIV)
We must be careful to constantly be reminded by turning to God’s word, His covenant of love. His words remind us of Deuteronomy 6:5, “Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” We find the strength to love as God intends by living by the words of His mouth.
From His mouth to the tablets of our hearts and souls we are prepared to live life to the full as Jesus came to teach us to do. Jesus taught us to know every word that came from the mouth of our LORD. The LORD God is one and He is faithful to feed us with His Word, will we go and partake of His daily bread?
Today’s Prayer: Father God, the God of Israel, You are our LORD. Thank You LORD for the words You have given us. Please write Your covenants upon the tablets of our hearts, minds, and souls so we are careful to live from Your every word. We desire to live in covenant with You LORD and to resist temptation through the power of Your word. Please draw us to Your Word and please have Your Spirit remind us of every word that has come from Your mouth. Help us LORD to share every word You speak to us. Amen.
