Today’s Scripture: Revelation 22:9, NLT- “But he said, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers the prophets, as well as all who obey what is written in this book. Worship only God!”
John was being shown the end of times. The angel of God revealed to Him the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven. Our only hope to enter this new heaven and earth is through the blood of the lamb of God.
As Revelations 22:27 reveals, “Nothing evil will be allowed to enter, nor anyone who practices shameful idolatry and dishonesty—but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.” (NLT) It is clear, we can not live a pure life without the purity of Jesus, and we cannot practice righteousness without the righteousness of the Lamb of God working through us.
In Revelations 22:3, we are told when the great city, the holy Jerusalem descends out of heaven from God, the servants will serve God the Father and Jesus the Lamb of God. Can we not begin serving today?
Jesus is our only hope to have our names in the Lamb’s book of life. He is also our only chance to live righteously. We can begin by serving God and His people where we are today. In Revelation 22:8 we are told that John fell to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing him the visions of the new Jerusalem.
But the angel of the LORD said in Revelation 22:9, NLT, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers the prophets, as well as all who obey what is written in this book. Worship only God!” Can you believe that God can use you and me as He uses His servant angels and prophets?
Let us fall and worship God and then rise to serve Him and His people. I am thankful we can “practice” righteousness as stated in Revelation 22:11, “Let the unrighteous continue to be unrighteous, and the vile continue to be vile; let the righteous continue to practice righteousness, and the holy continue to be holy.” (BSB)
In recovery we often say, just do the next right thing. I am guessing this is a simple way of saying just practice righteousness. However, at the end of the day and this life it is what God and His Son, the Lamb of God, deem as righteous. Thankfully, the Lamb was sacrificed for us to cleanse us and to welcome us to serve with Him and to be written in the Lamb’s book of life.
I am thankful for Revelations 22:17 which reveals we can thirst for the river of life. God, please create a thirst in us for doing Your good and serving Your people. I do not want to add or take away from God’s Word, but I do pray to serve and thirst for Him and share the Lamb who satisfies.
You are a servant of God; will you serve with His angels today?
Today’s Prayer: Come Lord Jesus. We welcome You Lord and we are drinking from Your river of life. Thank You LORD for Your Spirit who satisfies. Lead us LORD to live and serve. We are praying to live for You now and forever. Use us, Your servants, to welcome all others into Your saving grace. In the name of our Lamb of God. Jesus Christ. Amen.
