Today’s Affirmation: Joy comes in the morning after I endure for a moment.
The consistent example in our Holy scriptures from the writers is one of praising God. Do things always turn out rosy? Can we now expect to never feel pain? You know the answer to that and so did David in Psalm 30: 5 where this daily affirmation comes from.
If David, the great David of the bible, had so many struggles don’t we know we are going to have them as well. No matter what, like David says in Verse 1 of Chapter 30, I will exalt you, O Lord, for You lifted me out of the depths… David obviously had been in some deep dark places. After all Saul was out to kill him and he knew the depths of infidelity and murder. Yet, he knew it was God who lifted him out. Yes, I can praise God for lifting me out of the depths, can you?
In verse 2, David called out to the Lord and God healed him. David knew sickness. Just because we love God doesn’t mean we will not deal with illness in ourselves and others.
Once again, we are instructed to sing to the Lord and praise his holy name. Wait, I am in the pits of hell here, there is sickness all around me and you want me to sing? Apparently so. When we are faced with any kind of trial. Note: David is praising God for who He is not for what he is going through.
David reminds us that this trial even if from God only lasts a moment but his favor lasts forever. In our verse today, we are told that we may weep all night but rejoicing comes in the morning. It’s OK to cry in tough times and deal with the immediate struggles in life but there is HOPE that joy will be coming.
Cry out to God today or in your times of trouble like David does in this chapter. He tells us in verse 7 that he knows what it is like to feel like God isn’t even there, that he is hiding his face from us. So he cried out, O Lord be merciful to me.
O Lord, be my help.
Do you need that line today? Go ahead cry out. O Lord, be my help today. David says God turned his wailing into dancing and clothed him in joy. David’s heart began to sing to God without stopping. Yes he said, ” I will give you thanks forever.”
Give thanks today no matter what you face and just know that you may be crying now but joy will surely come. Keep the faith, endure, and expect joy.
1. Can you praise God for lifting you up in some experience in your past?
2. Have you cried out to God for help, do you need to? Do think God hears you?
3. Can we be with others and praise God for them in their time of need. They may not feel like praising and we can love and encourage but cry out to God for them. Do you know someone today that needs you to cry out to God for them today?
Yes, I will give you thanks forever.

Tom,
The opening really grabbed me. “Joy comes in the morning after I endure for a moment.” In today’s society, and perhaps in all societies past, we do not want to “endure for a moment”. The old cliche “Good things come to those who wait” could never be so appropriately applied as to waiting on God. This theme will be my meditation for the day. Thank you!

Leaning into our pain isn’t popular is it? I used to think because I was a Christ follower that life should go smoothly.
Where did I get that????
I think the concept of “a moment” has gotten me through some truly dark times Tom.
This is a lifeline to someone in pain…great word.
(I’m going to try to read today’s affirmation…today!!! 🙂
