Today’s scripture: 2 Samuel 22:2, NIV- “He said: “The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;”
David experienced distress. Once he had become king, Saul and David’s own son Absalom were among his enemies. God had surrounded him with protectors. God Himself was with David.
As David sang in 2 Samuel 22:2, he knew the LORD was his rock. The LORD is still, to this day, our rock, and our deliverer as well. We too, can call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, as stated in 2 Samuel 22:4.
We are assured of 2 Samuel 22:7, “In my distress I called to the LORD; I called out to my God. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came to his ears.” (NIV) The LORD is still worthy, and He still hears.
Our lives may not be as dramatic as the times of David and yet we are still overwhelmed, but God still rescues us. The LORD is still our support as they praised him in 2 Samuel 22:19. God still delights in us as He did in the days of David in 2 Samuel 22:20.
It is never God who leaves us, but we can quickly turn away from the LORD. We must do as David in 2 Samuel 22:22 and keep the ways of the LORD, and not depart from Him. The LORD is still our lamp today. As 2 Samuel 22:29 promises, “For You are my lamp, O LORD; The LORD shall enlighten my darkness.” (NKJV) As the NIV puts it, the LORD turns our darkness into light.
We can choose moment to moment to turn away from evil and towards our LORD. Today and always, “God’s way is perfect. All the LORD’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.” (2 Samuel 22:31, NLT)
Our security and safety remain with the LORD. Let us walk with the LORD today and sing, as David did in 2 Samuel 22:47 “The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be my God, the Rock, my Savior!” (NIV) Let us sing praises to our LORD today.
Today’s Prayer: Almighty God, we are praising Your name together. You LORD are our rock, fortress, and deliverer. Thank You LORD for protecting and delivering us from our enemies. LORD, You alone are worthy of our praise. Thank You Father God for hearing our cries. Thank You LORD for delighting in us, Your children. Keep us close LORD and thank You for being the lamp to lighten our paths. Thank You LORD for turning our darkness into light. In Your powerful and mighty name, we do pray. Amen.
