Today’s Scripture: Numbers 14:7, NKJV- “and they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying: “The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land.”
We must be careful to whom we listen. Where the LORD is leading us is most often not the popular direction or opinion. The spies who Moses had sent to the land God had promised them reported beautiful fruits but also scary giant descendants of Anak.
Most of the people who had heard these reports spoke out to re-elect different leaders other than Moses and Aaron so they could go back to Egypt after these forty years. They were fearful and continued to put their hope in other humans and what they knew.
We are told in Numbers 14:5 that Moses and Aaron simply fell facedown in front of the Israelite people. We must do the same. Shut out the voices of many assembled and totally trust God. We can fall, at any time, facedown before the LORD, our God.
While Moses and Aaron prayed, Numbers 14:7-8 tells us that Caleb and Joshus stood up “and said to the entire Israelite assembly, The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. If the LORD is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us.” (NIV)
We also need to be reminded that where God is taking us is exceedingly good. We must shut down our fears and shut out the negative voices that only trust the powers and understanding of the flesh. As Paul also reminded the Corinthians in 2 Corinthians 4:18, “while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (NKJV)
Let us fall on our faces today before God and all others. Let us look to God and trust in what we cannot see. Let us go where God is commanding us regardless of outside voices. God knows us and the plans He has for us. Let our chief aim be to please God.
When we do what the LORD has commanded us, He is with us. Although we may not know what the glory of the LORD looks like, we can have faith that His glory will appear as it did in Numbers 14:10.
Moses defended these people before the LORD, and we can too. We can remind people that our God is still able to lead us into exceedingly good places regardless of what it appears. We can pray just as Moses did in Numbers 14:17, NKJV- “And now, I pray, let the power of my Lord be great, just as You have spoken.”
If the LORD has spoken it, it will happen regardless of the naysayers. We can pray for our adversaries and ourselves before God. Because of God’s great love, He still forgives us. As stated in Numbers 14:20, “The LORD replied, “I have forgiven them, as you asked.”
However, just as the LORD promised in Numbers 14:23, many will not ever see the land promised because of lack of faith. However, in Numbers 14:24, we are told that Caleb had a different spirit in him, and he followed the LORD with his whole heart.
You and I can have a different spirit too by welcoming the Spirit of God. This is who we must listen to and follow. We will not see the exceedingly good in advance. But when we fix our eyes on our unseen God and follow Him with our whole heart we end up in a wonderful and exceedingly good place.
Where are you headed?
Today’s Prayer: Almighty God. LORD of creation. I am looking to You LORD. I am trusting in Your commands. Lead us LORD where You will have us go. I am praying now LORD for all Your people to ignore the voices of human fear and to turn and fix our eyes on Your unseen presence. Fill our hearts LORD and draw our whole hearts to You and the land You have for us. Thank You for your love. Amen.
