Today’s Scripture: Psalm 23:3, KJB- “He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”
Does your soul need restoration or refreshment? Are you tired, exhausted, or devoid of care? David acknowledged in the first three verses of Psalm 23 that the LORD was His shepherd who gave him everything he needed.
The LORD welcomed him and his soul into green pastures and led him beside still waters where he could find rest, peace, and quietness in Psalm 23:2. Alone with God is where we find the restoration of our souls. In a mad, frantic, and demanding world we can follow God on His paths that lead to peace, comfort, and righteousness.
Psalm 23:4 is one of the Bible’s most famous verses for both believers and non-believers. Most have heard this line at funerals or somewhere along their paths. “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” Although we all have many different valleys in our lives, the LORD will always be our only lasting comfort.
Evil abounds but we have no reason to fear. The LORD, our God, is with us. I find comfort in that especially when I seek Him with all my soul in the calm and quiet. Davd and many other biblical figures knew the crushing, demanding, and scary valleys of life. Over and over, we are promised example after example of how those who turn to the LORD find restoration.
You and I can do this too. My safest and most comforting places are on my knees alone with my LORD. Sometimes this has actually been in green pastures and by still waters. Sometimes it was in my prayer closet or on any surface I could find. Away from all other demands I can trust God for restoration. Psalm 23:6 promises that “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” (KJB)
When we stop running the goodness and mercy of God that is following us can catch up. When we pause long enough to be alone with God, wherever that is, we become bathed in His goodness, mercy, and restoration. Will you stop running today for just a moment and allow the wave of God’s restoration to restore your soul?
Today’s Prayer: Dear LORD, thank You for restoring my soul. Thank You LORD for giving me everything I need. Thank You for leading me to green pastures and still waters. Thank You LORD for meeting me and my soul when I turn to You. Thank You Father God for refreshing and restoring my soul. I only fear You LORD and I am thankful for the comfort only You can give. I am thankful that You make by cup runneth over with restoration when I drink from Your cup. Thank You for Your goodness and mercy that follow me all the days of my life. Thank You for welcoming me to live with You forever. Amen.
