Today’s Scripture: 1 Samuel 3:21, KJV- “And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.”
We have always heard that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. If we do believe this, cannot we still believe that the LORD of all creation continues to reveal Himself in His word to us today?
Just as the LORD revealed Samuel as a prophet to his people back in those yesteryears, God continues to reveal who you and I are today. As the people of Samuel’s day, there are times we may feel defeated. We must do as they did and take God with us into our next battle. Ok, we may not have the Ark of the Covenant to carry with us like the Israelites did in 1 Samuel 4, but God still proves He fights our battles today.
The Philistines defeated the Israelites even when they thought they were bringing God into battle with them. Not only are we told that they lost 30,000 soldiers in 1 Samuel 4:10-11, but they even had the Ark of God captured from them.
The Philistines soon learned that wherever they kept the Ark of God, God was defeating them. The power was not in the Israelites nor the Ark, the power was and is God. The formula that Samuel spoke to the people of Israel in 1 Samuel 7:3 is still our path to victory today. “Then Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you return to the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtoreths from among you, and prepare your hearts for the LORD, and serve Him only; and He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.” (NKJV)
We continue to find today that when we fast, confess our sins, and cry out to the LORD, He fights our battles and helps us. We must stay with the LORD. If we turn away from the LORD, we suffer the consequences as the people of God have experienced throughout history and today. If all our hearts are not with the LORD and we entertain and serve the gods of humanity, we are defeated.
When we return to the LORD with all our hearts and serve Him only, we find the victories of God. Just as the people of Samuel’s day we do not need a king, we only need the LORD. Unfortunately, today, and back then, the masses of people simply want earthly kings to take care of them and fight their battles. Proven repeatedly throughout history and playing out before our eyes today, the world is lost and losing under the kingdoms of humanity.
We need to return to the LORD with all our hearts and only seek Him as our King of kings and LORD of lords. The LORD gave the people a king as they asked before Samuel. LORD, we are crying out today for You to be our KING. We confess, LORD, we have failed and followed fleshly kings, we are returning to You now our LORD and serving You alone.
As 1 Samuel 9:14, we can trust the LORD’s timing. God brings us to the right place and the right people for Him to be glorified. The LORD is our King and His word still reveals who He is.
Who is your King today?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are my LORD and King. I am praying now that we, as a people, return to You Father God with all our hearts and only cry out for You to be our LORD and King. LORD, I am trusting Your path. Please take me where You want me to share Your word. Please do not allow your word to fall to the ground. Please reach all nations. Thank You LORD for Your Word that is forever and forever bringing victory to us. You LORD are our King. Amen.
