Today’s Scripture: Romans 8:26, NLT- “And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.”
There are times we do not know how or what to pray when we approach the throne of God. I have found methods that help me navigate my mind and heart in prayer. I first desire to experience the prayers of Jesus Christ. I rely on the prayer that Jesus gave to His disciples as the backbone of my prayers. Honoring our Father who art in heaven is first.
Hollowing or praising God for who He is a wonderful place to start. How do I know who God is? I first recall from beginning to end who the Bible says that He is. I then welcome Gods kingdom and will into this world and into my heart. I thank God for the daily bread I received yesterday and ask Him to provide my daily bread today.
Yet, still, there are days I realize I am not bringing anything to the table. I am devoid of ideas and feelings. In these moments I am most often reminded of Romans 8:26 and I let go and ask the Holy Spirit to pray for me. I am convinced our struggles to pray, at times, are the design and desire of God. The Holy Spirit of God knows the desires of God’s heart for ours. We are not weak or incapable when we cannot pray.
We are simply humbled and ready to receive the prayers of the Holy Spirit. In fact, it is more challenging to silence our minds and mouths to welcome and allow the Spirit to pray for us than to think of things to pray for. I am very thankful for the prayers and groanings of the Holy Spirit. The moments when I know it is not I who is praying but the Spirit of God on God’s behalf.
Humbled and alone with God, praying for His Holy Spirit to course through every cell of our bodies so the light of God radiates out from us is a powerful prayer. As Romans 8:26 concludes we are now praying with the Holy Spirit on a level mere word cannot express. It is during these times that we are not off-track or misdirected. We are right where the Spirit of God desires and knows we should be.
More times than not, I have found there is an amazing almost miraculous super-spiritual connection with the Word of God when we turn to the Bible after these Spirit-guided prayers. Stuff you cannot make up. We get to experience and be God in action. It is in these moments when we are convinced, as Paul was, in Romans 8:39 that nothing can separate us from the love of God.
Holy Spirit, we thank You for meeting us in our prayers and for praying for us when we do not have any prayers of our own. Thank You Holy Spirit for welcoming the kingdom and will of God into our souls. Groan Holy Spirit. Radiate the glow of God into this world through Your prayers today. Will You allow the Holy Spirit to pray for you?
Today’s Prayer: Thank You Holy Spirit for praying for us. Thank You Jesus for leaving the Holy Spirit, to be our advocate and helper. Thank You heavenly Father for guiding and receiving our prayers. Fill us with Your desires Father God. Fill us, equip us, and guide us in Your ways. Hear the groanings of Your Spirit and fill us with Your desires and purpose. In the prayers of the Holy Spirit do we pray. Amen.
