Today’s Scripture: 2 Corinthians 3:6, BSB- “And He has qualified us as ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”
Our lives have qualified us for serving others. The Spirit of God prepares us and our way to speak with those intended. The Spirit of God “pops” things into my head when I am praying that He then confirms in His Word. Over time I have come to realize these were not coincidences, but they were the Spirit of God at work.
Most mornings I follow the model prayer that Jesus gave us. The Spirit of God raises a question or plants a thought in my mind as I praise God for who He is. The day of this writing as I went through the “hallowed be thy name” part of Jesus’ prayer, I realized I truly believe God, that You are the God who created all things. You spoke things into being and they were. I believe You said “let there be light” and there was. I don’t understand it, but I believe it.
After my prayers, I went back to the list of verses I was following at the time and saw 2 Corinthians 4. The first word in 2 Corinthians 4 said “therefore”. So, I felt I had to go and read chapter 3 to see what that word was “there for.” The first impression I received from 2 Corinthians 3 was that you and I are a letter that can be read by all.
Like Paul in 2 Corinthians 2:3, I write so others may know my joy. I also write as Paul mentions in 2 Corinthians 2:4 out of my love for God and all others. You and I are open letters. You have probably heard the old saying to be careful how you act in public because you may be the only bible some people will ever read. What will people read in us today as they come across our paths? Paul says this letter is not written in ink but by the Spirit of the living God.
2 Corinthians 3:6, promises that we are sufficient and qualified because the Spirit of God gives us life. God gave Moses the law engraved in stone so it would not fade as the glow upon His face. The Spirit of God is writing upon our hearts, so it is alive. In full disclosure, the letter upon my heart has some disappointing and dark parts in it. Although the Spirit gives me life I still must deal with this flesh, this jar of clay mentioned in 2 Corinthians 4:7. When my jar is broken, it only serves to reveal the all surpassing power of God.
2 Corinthians 3:16 tells us unlike Moses, if we will turn to the Lord instead of the Law then this light in us will never fade. 2 Corinthians 3:17 reminds us that the LORD is Spirit and if we look to Him, we find freedom. Verse eighteen says we are being transformed into the image of the Lord by the Spirit of the Lord. This image never fades.
We are witnessing in real time 2 Corinthians 4:4 that states “Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.” (NLT)
In reading God’s Word, I came to the punchline of why His light “popped” into my head during my prayer. 2 Corinthians 4:6 states for it is God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (NKJV) Ok God, I get it. This morning when it stood out to me that You were the God who spoke light into existence You are now remind me that You are the SAME God who will shine Your light on our hearts, so we carry Your glow to others. A glow that never fades and is fully alive.
Will you share the letter and light poured into your spirit today?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your light and Your Spirit. Help us to reflect the glow of Jesus Christ so others come to know You. Thank You for exposing us by Your light and for filling us with Your Spirit so we can share Your love and ways. I am praying that the light and letter You have placed inside of us will welcome those who have been blinded by the ruler of this world, so they come to know You and Your light. Amen.
