Today’s Scripture: Numbers 11:14, NIV- “I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me.”
Moses reached a point with the complaining people of the desert to admit he was powerless to carry all those people and their needs. Interestingly, step one in a twelve-step recovery program is we must first admit we are powerless.
The people wandering the desert were sick and tired of eating manna. They were asking Moses to provide them with meat to eat. When we are wandering through life, we can become sick and tired too. In fact, in recovery we are told that we must reach the point of being “sick and tired of being sick and tired.”
It is at this point we become ready to give our burdens to God. The second step is that we come to believe that a power greater than ourselves can restore us to sanity. Moses was at this point in Numbers 11:14. Tired of all the complaining and feeling the tremendous weight, he admitted that he could not carry all these people by himself, and the burden was too heavy for him.
The sooner we get to admitting we are powerless and the sooner we get to giving our heavy burdens to God the better. We exhaust ourselves and everyone within our storms when we think we can carry the heavy burdens of life. We cannot.
We can pray, call out, and let go. It is here where step three comes alive, and we make the decision to turn our lives and our wills over to the care of God. God, I am letting go. I cannot carry my own burdens much less the burdens of others. Father God, Lord God, thank You for taking our burdens.
LORD, I am praying to You now in great gratitude and faith that it is You who carries all our burdens. Thank You God for the favor You have given me. I am praying now that You look with favor upon those in whom You have placed in my care.
Father God, bring those You wish to stand with us as you did with Moses in Numbers 11:16. Please come down and speak with us and put the power of Your Spirit on us as you did for Moses and the elders in Numbers 11:17.
Thank You Yahweh for hearing our prayers and even our complaints. Feed us Your will and the daily bread of Your Kingdom. Please carry the burdens of those we love and feed them. I am trusting You God to take care of me and my people.
LORD, we can also trust You with the heavy burdens of our consequences. Like Moses in Numbers 11:21, we may not be able to fathom that You, LORD, can provide all that You promise, however, we can trust that You are the Almighty God of Heaven.
Let us be reminded and challenged by Your question to Moses in Numbers 11:23, “Then the LORD said to Moses, “Has my arm lost its power? Now you will see whether or not my word comes true!” (NLT) I believe Lord God that You alone have the power to carry all burdens. Please feed our people.
Today’s Prayer: Almighty God, God of Moses, thank You for taking our burdens. LORD I am praying now that You carry the burdens of everyone in my care. Feed us Father God Your Word, ways, and wonders. I am trusting the power of Your loving arms. Carry us LORD and teach us to walk and rest in Jesus. In You LORD and in Your Son Jesus Christ we do trust, hope, and pray. Amen.
