Today’s Scripture: Hebrews 6:19, NIV- “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,”
Do you long for security? Look no further than Jesus Christ. As we do our best to obey, we find hope and security in Jesus Christ, the anchor for our soul and our high priest representing us before God the Father.
Hebrews uses the word “today.” Our lives are built one day at a time. As Hebrews 3:4 states “For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.” God is building our lives one day at a time. As Hebrews 3:6 instructs us we are God’s house, and we must keep our confidence and rejoice in our hope in Jesus Christ until the end.
As Hebrews 3:7 directs us, “So, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear his voice,” we are to listen and look at God’s house. We must stay anchored in Christ and not lose faith like those who lost their lives in the wilderness. We must not be deterred by our current environment and conditions but look for the beauty of God’s house. When we look for God, we find evidence all around us. When we listen with our hearts we hear Him.
When our hearts and souls stay in Jesus, we do enter God’s place of rest as referenced in Hebrews 3:11. We must head the warnings of Hebrews 3:12, “See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.” (NIV) Let us have a believing heart living with a living God.
We can encourage each other to stay anchored as Hebrews 3:13 speaks to us “But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” Today we can live in the house of God built by God Himself
Let us commit to believe and obey today. The promise of Hebrews 4:1 that “God’s promise of entering his rest still stands” (NLT) is a great hope that we can enter God’s rest today. The key to God’s house is obedience. Although we are weak, God built us and is not surprised by our weakness but Hebrews 4:11 encourages us to “Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.”
Let us make every effort today to look and listen for God. God is faithful to show us around His house and anchor our souls in Jesus, today. Are you obeying the voice of God you are hearing?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise that we can enter Your rest with Jesus. LORD, we believe with our heart and pray to be obedient to You today. We offer what we have and turn to Jesus now. Thank You Jesus for being the anchor for our souls. Please open our ears and eyes today to hear and see You. In the example of Jesus Christ, we do pray. Amen.
