Today’s Scripture: Acts 9:6, NKJV- “So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” Then the Lord said to him, “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
How often do we ask the Lord what He wants us to do? Wouldn’t it be nice if God would be as specific with us as He was with Saul of Tarsus on his way to Damascus in Acts 9:6? God and life can be blinding and confusing, yet we can stop and pray for God to tell or show us what He wants us to do.
Has God clearly spoken to you? I love to hear these stories. However, in my experience I have found, most often, that I hear silence when I listen for God. However, I hear Him loudest when I am reading His Word. His timing and message day after day and year after year have been so mind blowing that I have come to accept that only God could speak like this.
In Acts 8:29, “The Spirit said to Philip, “Go over to that chariot and stay by it.” (BSB) I would love for the Holy Spirit to be so clear with me. So, I am asking the Holy Spirit of God now to tell me where to go and what to do, will you? If the Holy Spirit spoke to Philip, He can speak to us, right? Since Jesus spoke to Saul, I believe He can speak to us. Lord, please open our hearts, minds, souls, and ears to be on high alert for Your directions.
Acts 8:26 tells us that “an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” (NKJV) Lord please have one of Your angels speak to me and tell me what to do and where to go.
Acts 8:21 gives us a great starting point to hearing our Lord. As Peter told Simon the Sorcerer, we should ask God to get our hearts right in His sight. Father God, please make my heart right in Your sight. (NKJV) When our hearts are in alignment with God and His Word we do hear Him.
God is teaching me to hear. This morning, I saw myself in Simon the Sorcerer who thought he could buy the ability to give the Holy Spirit? I believe Peter would say the same words of Acts 8:20 to me “Your money perishes with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money!”
Do we fall into the trap of thinking we must make enough money to grant us the ability to share God and His Holy Spirit? Do you think God needs our money or our hearts? LORD, please get my heart right with You and have your angels and Holy Spirit tell me where to go and what to do. I am trusting You to provide the means and the way.
In the all-powerful, all-knowing, penetrating love of Jesus Christ we can go and do. How do you hear God?
Today’s Prayer: Father God, I need You and I need my heart to be right in Your sight. LORD, thank You for Your Holy Spirit, angels, and Scriptures that speak to us. Lord, I am asking You now to be clear with me as to what You want me to do and where You want me to go. Yes, Lord, I am here, and I am praying You are preparing my heart, mind, and soul for Your glory and purposes. Please be clear and specific Lord. Amen.
