Today’s Scripture: Luke 17:5, KJB- “And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.”
The apostles living and walking with Jesus knew they did not have the faith He required. We do not either. The Good News of Jesus Christ is that He is the author and finisher of our faith, and He will increase our faith if we ask.
In the next verse Luke 17:16 Jesus states that if we had the faith as small as a mustard seed what we speak would happen. What do we want to happen? Do we praise God when what we want to happen does? In Luke 17:18, only one of the ten healed from leprosy returned and threw himself at Jesus’ feet to praise Him for healing them. Jesus told him in Luke 17:19 to “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.”
We all have faith, but we must put our faith into action. One action we must take is prayer. In Luke 18:1, Jesus instructs His disciples to always pray and to keep their faith and to not lose heart. He then told the parable of the widow who persistently went to the judge until he relented to her request. Jesus instructs us to appeal to God day and night.
We can humble ourselves before God like the tax collector in Luke 18:13. We can also say to God “God, be merciful to me a sinner!” LORD, be merciful to me for my lack of faith and persistence. Help me LORD to come to You with anticipation, wonder and the trust of a child in receiving Your Kingdom.
In the following verses the rich young ruler went away dejected because he could not let go of his wealth. What do we refuse to let go of to serve God fully? Why do we make entering the Kingdom of God so difficult? I have decided that I must cry out to Jesus day and night for my one desire like the blind man in Luke 18:38 where he repeatedly “cried out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!””
In Luke 18:41-43 Jesus turned and asked the blind man “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man replied “Lord, that I may receive my sight.” Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.
Do You know how you would respond to Jesus right now if He turned to you and asked what you want Him to do for you? What is your one thing? Let us ask Him for it now and pray to God day and night in faith for our request of Jesus to be completed so we may praise Him so others too may praise God.
What do you want Jesus to do for you?
Today’s Prayer: Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me. Lord, increase my faith. Help me to live in wonder of You and Your kingdom as a small child. Grant me the faith that You will fulfill Your work in me. I want to complete the work You have given me. Grant me confidence and faith to live in Your will and Your provision. I thank and praise You for the faith and healing You have already given me. LORD, increase my faith and forgive me for when I cling to my own understanding and actions. Prepare me and fill me to do Your will and keep my eyes and prayers towards You day and night. Amen
