Today’s Scripture: Jeremiah 6:16, BSB- “This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask for the ancient paths: ‘Where is the good way?’ Then walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it!’”
We find ourselves at crossroads where we must make decisions. God knows the way. In fact, in all situations and conditions God has already given us direction in His Word. Where do God’s ancient paths and ways tell us we must go?
Just five chapters earlier we read in Jeremiah 1:5 that God told Jeremiah that He had formed him in his mother’s womb, set him apart, and appointed him to be a prophet for God. In the womb God knew Jeremiah, you, and me. We too have been set apart and appointed. When we choose this path, this is where we find rest for our souls.
When we choose God’s path over all others, we do find true rest for our souls. God knows the way and creates each of our paths. God also sent Jesus to us to show us the way. In fact, Jesus told us in Matthew 11:27- “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” We can go the way God is calling us and then trust Jesus and His Holy Spirit to guide us on that way.
Jeremiah 1:7 makes a critical point in our walk. “But the LORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.” Today I captured the affirmation “I am going to everyone God sends me to and saying whatever God commands me.” Placing this into my spreadsheet of affirmations I found that I had captured this another way some years ago. “I will go to all whom God sends me and I will speak whatever God commands me.”
Today I realized that God told Jeremiah he MUST or SHALL go to everyone God sent him to and say whatever God commanded. Therefore, I recaptured the affirmation to “I must go to everyone God sends me and say whatever God commands me.”
“I am” is present action. “I will” is procrastination. “I must” is no longer our decision but God’s. This is our purpose that God, the great and powerful God, the LORD Almighty, wove into us. Who are we to waiver or wander at our crossroads? We can turn to God and His Word and seek His will for us and to go that way.
This is the direction and the place where we find rest for our souls. No second guessing. As we follow God’s Word and His Spirit we are on the road to the people and equipped with the message and yoke of Jesus to find and give away the rest He provides for our souls.
Are you going and doing what God appointed you to do today? We must.
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are the great and powerful God, the LORD Almighty. Thank You for forming us in the womb, for setting us apart, and appointing us to share Your Word with everyone You send us to. I must go and complete the work You have given me. Father God, thank You for the gifts to each of Your children. Help us to seek Your ways and to be bold and courageous in the fact that You created us in the womb for just where we are today. Keep us on Your path LORD. Jesus, we are taking Your yoke and praising You for the rest for our souls and we pray to share this rest with others Thank you for walking with us today. Amen.
