Today’s Scripture: 2 Timothy 2:22, KJB- “Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”
Thank You Christ Jesus for not denying Your grace and Spirit from us although we have been unfaithful. Thank You LORD for Your Spirit of power, love, and sound mind that Paul promised us in 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV).
Even in our unfaithfulness, Jesus finds a way to make us useful for Him and He prepares us for every good work. As 2 Timothy 2:22 states we can flee all other lusts and pursue God with a pure heart. In pursuit of God, we find His life and purpose. In our pursuit Lord, please help us to be kind and able to teach others about You.
I know every generation since Jesus has felt these must be the last days but looking at this world today it is easy to see the “terrible times in the last days” as stated in 2 Timothy 3:1, NIV. In the previous verses of 2 Timothy 2:25-26, we are encouraged to gently help others come to their senses who have been trapped by the devil and taken captive to do his will.
Look around, much of this world has been trapped by the devil and is being held captive to do his will. 2 Timothy 3:2-4, KJB describes the last days as, “For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;” Doesn’t that sound like the world we live in today?
This is a depraved world unaware that it is trapped by the devil. However, there is great hope in Jesus Christ and the Word of God. We can turn away and seek God and His goodness.
The LORD will rescue us, but it will not be easy. In fact, Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 3:12-13 that “everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.” (NIV)
Whether someone believes the Bible is real or not, does not change the truth of 2 Timothy 3:16-17. The King James Bible puts it this way, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
We must turn away from the news of today and turn to the Good News of Jesus Christ. He is our hope and power to break the chains of the devil and free all people. In fact, Jesus has made a way and set our example to gently help others come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
Are you willing to be used by God to gently share Him with a captured world?
Today’s Prayer: Almighty Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Son Jesus Christ and for Your Holy Scriptures. Thank You for inspiring Your Words that are profitable to us for correction and instruction. Teach us LORD to do Your good works. Use us LORD to be Your instruments to gently help this evil world come to its senses and to escape the trap of the devil. Help us LORD to be faithful. Continue to draw us to Your Word to equip and encourage us to do Your will. Help us to teach Your great truths and to share Your great love and hope. As we died with Christ help us to now live with Him and endure for Your glory. Amen.
