Today’s Scripture: John 1:26, NKJV- “John answered them, saying, “I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know.”
In the Gospel of John, he clearly speaks of Jesus as the Word and light of God. He also speaks of how the world did not recognize or know Jesus. When John the Baptist was baptizing people, those standing around were looking for his authority to do so. John knew his authority came from God.
John 1:4 teaches us that Jesus is the life and the light of all. However, the world could not recognize Him then or now. When we do experience Jesus and come to know Him, we know His life and light are with us.
I am thankful for those who witnessed to us the light of life. As they came to know Jesus, they became His witnesses. Once the Spirit of God shows us the Messiah, we become witnesses for the life and light of Jesus Christ.
John 1:15 tells us that if we do receive Jesus and believe in His name, we are given the right to be children of God. Whether standing in a room with other believers of standing alone in a world of non-believers, Jesus is standing with us. We can see what the world is yet to see.
I am thankful for the courage of those witnesses who shine the light of Jesus as children of God so we can come to believe and stand. John 1:17 tells us that “the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” (KJB) Once we have experienced this grace and truth, we can no longer keep it to ourselves.
As John 1:18 states, it is Jesus Christ who makes God the Father known to us. When John 1:40-41 describes Andrew’s following of Jesus, we are told that Andrew went to his brother and stated, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ). (NKJV)
We too, only need to share the grace and truth we have found in Jesus Christ. Those that God gives eyes to see will see and hearts to know, know. We can trust God’s light to shine as we share how we came to believe and see Jesus. As God’s light shines through His believers, the hearts, minds, and souls of new believers come to recognize Jesus standing among us.
Have you seen the Messiah?
Today’s Prayer: Our Father in heaven, thank You for sending Your Word and our Messiah to us. Thank You Father God for Your Son of grace and truth who shines Your light among us. Thank You LORD for opening our eyes, hearts, and souls to know Jesus, who is standing among us. Thank You LORD for Your witnesses who came first so we too may know You. Help us LORD, to share how we came to know Christ so others too will come to know He is among us. In the name of Jesus we do pray, Amen.
