Today’s Scripture: Luke 24:23, NLT- “They said his body was missing, and they had seen angels who told them Jesus is alive!”
The women were prepared to see Jesus. They had taken the time and prepared the spices to anoint Jesus’ body. They were not prepared for what they saw next. The stone was rolled away, and two glistening angels appeared to them and asked them “Why are you looking in a tomb for someone who is alive?”
Most translations ask “Why do you seek the living among the dead? Let us meditate on that question. Maybe even do as these women did “as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth “Luke 24:5, KJB. It is a great question for us. Are we preparing ourselves to see the miracles and awesome powers of Jesus?
Jesus has risen indeed! There was a time in my life where I semi-worshiped the stories about Jesus but that is a far cry from suddenly seeing Jesus who is very much alive today. Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them went and told the apostles about what they had found. “But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense.” Luke 24:11, NIV.
If the apostles thought it was nonsense, what about the people that are not prepared, even today, to believe in Jesus at all? Are we like Cleopas and his friend walking along the road to Emmaus where we do not even recognize Jesus when He is walking with us?
Jesus continues to walk with and teach us today. Like these two men we can beg Jesus to abide with us. Suddenly our eyes can be opened, and our hearts will burn within us.
Like those two Jesus followers we should go and tell our stories of how Jesus has appeared to us. We can say it is true! The Lord has risen! Do you have a story to tell of how Jesus is alive in your life?
Today’s Prayer: I am praising and worshiping You Jesus. I know You are alive. I thank You for Your Holy Spirit that makes my heart feel strangely warm and I know Your Spirit lives there. Thank You for teaching us through Your prophets, scriptures, and presence. I do believe Jesus that when I retell my story like the two from Emmaus; You Yourself are standing there with me. Thank you, Lord Jesus for being alive in our lives today! Amen.
