Today’s Scripture: Revelation 1:18, NIV- “I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.”
If Jesus Himself said He holds the keys of death and Hades, He also holds the keys to life and heaven.
I am praying to walk through the doors Jesus is unlocking for me. Over thirty years ago I experienced that affirmations do, in fact, work. I found that we can conceive something in our minds, speak it with our tongues, that somehow, we live what we affirm. When it happened for me, I was shocked yet also conflicted. Was I attempting to play God’s part?
Where I messed up then and still get sideways today is failing to ask Jesus which door to enter. As Matthew 7:7 instructs us “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Before we judge each other, we should consider the planks in our own eyes as instructed in Matthew 7:3-4. Jesus knew we run after and worry about many things that are not of the kingdom of God.
The first step Jesus gave us in Matthew 7:7 is to ask. Ask Jesus which door we are to seek. Jesus will open the door. It is not up to us to kick the door down or seek any other doors. The critical step to living a purposeful life is to remember that it is God and His Son Jesus Christ who hold the keys to the correct doors for us.
When we seek things that our egos and world entice us with, we can affirm them and achieve them. However, we must turn away from our nature and the nature of this world and turn to the kingdom of God. We can do as John in Revelation 1:17 and fall at the feet of Jesus, we come to see His doors.
It was Jesus who promised us in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (NKJV)
Before we open our hearts, minds, and souls to dreams of who we are to be, we should stop, fall before Jesus, and turn to the Kingdom of God and all the God-intended dreams of our lives shall be given to us. LORD, You hold the keys to our lives forever. Please open the door You desire for us to walk through. Have Your lampstand shine the light for our paths to live in Your kingdom.
Jesus holds the keys to our personalities, opportunities, and responsibilities. When we desire, more than any other thing, to live as Jesus came to teach us and as God created us, we are entering the narrow way.
It is impossible for us humans to make all the correct choices. Fortunately, we only need to make one. Here I am LORD, I am choosing You.
What door will you choose today?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, Almighty God, I am seeking Your kingdom and righteousness now. Please show me the door to enter that You have planned for me. I am turning to You and trusting that Jesus has the keys to every door You desire. LORD, I am praying now for Your light and Spirit to guide me to the door Jesus has unlocked for me. To Your glory I pray to be faithful and focused. Amen.
